Adobe Illustrator / Re: Illustrator as a PDF editor

Quote from: gnubler on June 07, 2010, 07:05:54 AMIncidentally, I had a dream last night in which I got into an argument with an imbecile who insisted there were absolutely NO white people from or living in Africa. When I told him I was African American he refused to believe me.

Thats funny... Having lived in London for a few years I always used to take the piss out of imbeciles like that who live with their heads up their ass.

Imbecile - Do you have christmas in Africa?
Me - Whats Christmas? Sounds familiar... Is that like a pudding or something?  :sarcasm:

Quote from: frailer on June 07, 2010, 03:56:11 AMHaha... no offence intended. Just that she has no chance, or little as yet, to try and get them to do things differently. Today she tells me she had a garment illustration where nothing was grouped...anywhere. I.e....pick a pocket, work you way through to group all elements in it. Next one...etc...before she could start to do the necessaries with it.  These are reasonably complex files.
Seems to take it in her stride though. Better than dad would.

Just send me their address... will go pull a DCS on them    - Take that you freehand using scum   :ninja: :death:  :death:  :death:  :ninja:

 Seems there are some things you never get used to...

Quote from: mattbeals on June 06, 2010, 04:48:28 PMEven having them side by side you won't see what Illustrator changed when it opened the generic PDF.

Here is a little tip that has saved my ass a countless times by picking up mistakes I would have otherwise missed by just viewing the PDF's side by side.

1. Duplicate PDF
2. Edit duplicated PDF in Illy - Page size HAS to stay the same!
3. Open the original and the edited PDF in acrobat.
4. Use your apple + tilda key to quickly cycle between the two PDF's repeatedly.
5. Play spot the difference.

This trick comes in especially handy (for me anyways) when doing last second fix-ups on a PDF and need to check that no fonts have defaulted, or other shit gone wrong, during the creation of the PDF.

I think on screen proofing will bring a whole new meaning to the phrase... "But it looked right on my screen"  :death: Just think about it, maybe we could get to use that line on the customers for once

Cheers for that beer.  In all my time using Illy I just figured the align function was shit when compared to the awesome align function in freehand. Guess I was wrong.

Artwork Systems / Artpro & PowerLock
May 04, 2009, 08:58:51 AM
I needs some help please...

To use powerlock we have been trained to put the security screening watermark thingee in only one of the channels. So say it is a straight four color process job we would only apply the security image thingee to the cyan channel (if the cyan channel is the strongest channel). We have done a few tests already on actual printed jobs but the security watermark is so well hidden that we cant even find it!

So is it correct to place the security screening watermark thingee in one channel only? Or should it be applied to all the channels? Also, would using a higher line screen affect the results and make it harder to pick up the security screening image with the film gauge that gets played out? Any other tips or advice?

As always any advice much appreciated!

Hey Skryber.. Never deal with variable data shit so cant help you there. Though you did mention you use BBedit (which sucks). TextWrangler is made by the same company, is for free, for mac and might be able to help you...

Hey Beck,Im no expert in Artpro (yet) but have been trying to recreate your problem. The only thing that seems to do it on my side so far is if the first colour under the colour separations tab is left blank (all the colours moved down by one) though if you apply marks it moves all the colours up and fills the blank no. 1 spot.
Hope this helps... though probably not as the marks get filled with white and not the no fill you mentioned. Anyways, good luck..

Have a look at this... http://www.thursby.com/products/dave.html ...Just one of the things it does is let your filenames go up to 256 characters.
