I have a couple of amps (Fender, Ampeg, Marshall) that have tubes.

I have an old Checkmate tube amp. If you turn it on it squeals really loud. Years ago tried replacing all of the tubes but it didn't help. :(

Does it have a polarity switch?

Not that I know of.
born2print and Brian May notwithstanding... tube amps typically have a polarity switch. It has something to do with grounding... back in the day, not all outlets had 3 prongs and the switch was a solution. I also noticed that flipping the polarity switch would do away with HF noise... have been playing and randomly pick up CB radio noise thru the tube amp, etc...

Joe

This amp doesn't even have the 3 prong plug and the only switch I see is the on/off toggle switch. Probably manufactured in the mid 60's as I picked it up used in the early 70's. It was a great amp before it started doing this. It gradually gets louder and louder and a good Fonzie smack on the top of it will make it stop for about 30 seconds before it starts all over again.

It is a Checkmate 18. Looks exactly like this one.

This but it isn't much fun playing with all of the squealing going on. I've been meaning to pick up a new one but never seem to get around to it.
