Adobe Illustrator / stitching in CS4 using Nexus RIP
November 14, 2009, 09:21:05 AM
Had a CS4 file for a folding carton come in the other day that was extremely complex in use of vector illustrations and used multi-layer transparency ie: a CMY psd file overlayered with a K only psd file with a 100% darken appearance used. We had stitching all over the place when we looked at the RIP'd 1 up file. The only way we could get rid of it was to combine the 2 psd files into 1 - CMYK psd file and to use the good old-fashioned Illy eps rastered in PhotoShop to simplify a lot of the complex vector elements with transparency. It just doesn't seem that top-layering text and or other stitching elements works anymore as designers seem to be making more (irresponsible) use of Illy's appearance pallette. Does anyone else out there have any ideas for getting rid of stitching??

Adobe Acrobat / trapping pdfs in Acrobat 7
October 09, 2009, 06:30:24 AM
I know...I know...Acrobat 7 is old and I have Acrobat 9, but I still prefer 7 for speed and simplicity. My question - I read Joe's explanation of trapping within Acrobat, but I can't seem to get it to work. I can trap a pdf using InDesign, but I would like to trap within Acrobat itself and possibly set up a batch process to do this. At present we have one client that sends 50 - 200 pdfs at a time. We are using Nexus 9.1 to batch trap, but if there is transparency used it slows the process to a crawl. Can someone help me get the settings right in Acrobat 7 to trap a pdf properly? Thanks in advance!
