I'm finding out that a lot of the work we get through here (is banners and stickers) are 800 page plans and specs books, mostly done in CAD. We have to resize the work to 8.5x11 usually (sometimes 11x17) but this latest order came in raster instead of vector and all that's supplied is pdf. There's 860 pages of these things, and it's choking Prisma, so we need to reduce file size somehow.

What's the best recommendation? Using the default reduce file size option, or using the optimize pdf and defining?
Bounce it and request proper PDF's! (I am allowed to act this way now)

Quote from: DigiCorn on May 09, 2024, 01:37:16 PMSpeaking of the Dark Side, yesterday I was looking for something, and I came across the post where the guy called us a bunch of 12 year olds (well, it was before I joined, so he called you all a bunch of 12 year olds). I still keep my age at 12 on this forum for that reason (DCS had filled me in on the story years ago), but I noticed Joe's age changed to 69. Not sure if that's a joke or not, but I enjoy seeing everyone's age at 12.
Unfortunately that is not a joke.

Quote from: DigiCorn on May 07, 2024, 04:30:56 PMIf you're that stupid to fall for, "buying gift cards," then you deserve to get swindled. Let's think about this logically... you know you didn't do anything wrong, and let's say someone did remote into your iPad... what site were you on that allowed the attacker to gain access? Maybe you're NOT so innocent after all...

$15,000? Hell no. I'd take my iPad to ewaste for shredding, and for $600 I'd buy a new one.

If I were really paranoid I'd go buy a new router with a VPN and configure my devices to connect through the VPN. I do that anyways so I can get out of market sports, or watch local teams that got blacked out.
I wouldn't say they are that stupid but they just don't understand how things work. They got the guy by claiming:

"They have downloaded a $15,000 charge for a child porn site out of China. That immediately got my attention," said Mandle.

Mandle has no criminal record and says he didn't have any pictures or videos like that on his iPad. Mandle did not want that on his computer or record.

"I could get in a lot of trouble. That's what still sucked me in," he said.

Just gullible.

Quote from: DigiCorn on May 07, 2024, 10:49:21 AMI got an email recently; an invoice from PayPal saying that my payment was declined. Obviously it was phony, because I don't have a PayPal account. I have told the old people in my life to ignore all of that stuff. Who's still falling for these scams?

ZIP is a lossless compression if you use the maximum quality setting so it should not degrade anything.

Quote from: Tracy on May 07, 2024, 07:16:13 AMHey Joe, I was going to order something from Nuts.com  ;D
and was wondering if I can type my email address like you did?
I have enough SPAM  >:(
Probably not. Look at nuts.com privacy policy which they have to have somewhere on their website. When entering an email address it is on the order form and in your account which neither should be available publicly to anyone else unless they sell their email lists to others. Most legitimate vendors don't sell their customers data.

Quote from: David on May 01, 2024, 09:33:18 AMalso never post a picture of your house with the street address number visible/readable or your car with the license plate readable.

even the goog blurs the addresses on street view

Agree 100%

Quote from: Tracy on May 01, 2024, 09:15:27 AMSo good to know!
sheesh I wonder if I have done that
That is why I have a contact link at the top of the page that doesn't expose an email address but no one ever uses it when they have an issue.  :rotf:

(The email address field in the contact form never exposes your email address to anyone but me)

That is why one should never post a correctly formatted email address on any website where it will display fully on the website. Type it out like above. Most people get spam either from posting their email address online or websites that you give your email address to that sells their email lists to spammers. (I do not sell your email addresses)

Jooooeee!

Hotmetal go to post 1 please, disregard us morons!
No you typed a correct email address formatted like it should be. But email harvester bots can get those addresses with a quick scan of the website. So I changed it so they can't easily read the email address.
