When I get in this morning, my Server's fan is running and sitting
like I had a power failure, did a hard power down and startup
I saw little messages about a battery, the only thing I could catch
was pci or pcL slot 18
started up fine, also I have a battery backup on the server.
The old Mac that sits next to it was shut down, which I only sleep that computer

So it looks like some kind of power failure happened or my battery backup glitched.

So my questions are
how do I check the battery is really bad?
How do I replace the battery if it needs it?
Is this urgent?

Windows 2008 Server

Joe

Mine has a red light that comes on labeled "batteries need replaced".

where would that be?

wondering if I should restart and see if I still get the message?

I am talking about the battery backup the server is plugged into. Are you talking about that or the server?

Is you XMF Server from Proactive? If so you may want to give them a call and they'll probably remote in a take a peek at the server.

My boss wouldn't let me update the license! >:(
He is on vacation too! I could pay for the phone call if I have to tho!

AaronH

I know how that can be. Maybe after the bill comes in at more than the license to get everything fixed/situated, they'll rethink it. Unlikely though.

I went in 3 times to plead my case-got shot down!

Your boss will find it hard to argue when there is no work due to your server not working.  :death:  If they don't want to fix it not much more you can do but

Your UPS should "beep" to indicate if your batteries are low. Get the name/number of said product and Google should give you a hint.

Sorry...thought I had replied to this earlier but don't see the post now. I was talking about the UPS and not a server. The UPS has a red light indictor when batteries need replaced.

Not sure what a UPS is.

shut down server last night, restarted this morning with same message
I will have to call someone in.
Going to leave it running

I did see a message "if you are not using a battery pressD"
heck I don't know if I'm using a battery

I know Macs have an internal battery; don't know if Windows computers do. If your server does and the power was out too long, the battery may have run out of juice. That would lead to all kinds of things like losing settings and weird stuff happening.

A UPS is the battery backup the server is plugged into.

Yes they do but I've never seen one fail in under 10 years of use.

Tracy, what lights are on...on the battery backup unit and how are they labeled?
