v12 & QXP PDFs

Rampage v12 is throwing errors in the prescan on Quark PDFs. Unfortunately, the PDFs are coming in from clients and we can't try to make our own PDFs from their files. The prescan settings can all be turned off and still the error occurs.

Rampage is working on the issue but has anyone else had any problems with Quark PDFs? (That's a loaded question I know.)

Do they contain live transparency or have they been flattened. Quark PDF's that have live transparency can get quite large. Maybe Rampage doesn't understand Quarks live transparency? Other than that I really haven't had any problems with Quark PDF's but then again I don't use Rampage.

The PDFs otherwise RIP fine, it is the prescan that kills them. Also, it is seemingly random pages inside of multi-page PDFs. Nothing special on most of them.

I've had several "no so special" PDFs that were made from quark that give me fits lately. When the PDF is placed in Indesign CS6 and a new PDF is exported (usually multiple up) it crashes Indesign. Saving the PDFs back to PDF 4 Compatible seems to always fix it. I think the big thing is it flattens the files. I don't think Quark does it's transparency in a well that plays nice is all. I  know this is different but I hope it's helpful.

We are having success with the Optimize PDF, the thing is that the PDFs work even when nothing is selected in the Optimize menu.

Seems that Acrobat is removing the Quark crap that is causing the issues. Time to make a droplet.

I had a job this week, exporting a 24 page job of a quark made pdf out of indesign and it crashed every time. It was black and white with nothing special.....

Had to rasterize page 17 (after troubleshooting where the problem was) at 2400 dpi in photoshop.

Got er done.

Ive had a lot of trouble lately exporting flats out of cs6 lately... Have had to export as an .idml and open in cs5 and that works. Not sure if its a cs6 thing or something else.

Workaround solution was to Optimize from within Acrobat with no options selected.

Now using a version upgrade and seems to be working good.

I have to give it to Rampage, they are the best in customer support.

Just got my first PDF made in Quack 9 and it has issues before it even gets to Rampage. Check out what happened to the nice vector logo placed adjacent to a Quark drop shadow in the attached screen shot.
Kills me that THE DESIGNER DIDN'T EVEN SEE THIS. Good news is the raster part on top can be deleted in Acrobat. I didn't tell the designer that tho, let him or her figure out WTF happened.

Never flatten or that is the result 99.99% of the time with Quark.

Never flatten do anything but set black type in Times Roman or that is the result 99.99% of the time with Quark.

Run into this kind of crap constantly. If it wasn't for Pitstop I'd be sunk. I can't believe the different versions of PDFs we have been getting lately. I had one from Ghostscript that threw errors until I optimized the crap out of it. I have one now that I can't figure out how they PDF'ed it or what they used but it errors too. I think I should just set up a droplet to optimize and resave all PDFs that come in from customers.

Just downloaded a PDF made from Quark. 830 megs for a little magazine.  :sad: That's riquarkulous. Indy would be 1/10th the size.
