USB HD spins, won't mount

We have a USB external drive connected to our RIP for backup. SyncBack threw out an alert a few days ago that the drive couldn't be found. It gets power and I can hear the disk spinning, but suddenly it won't mount on Win or Mac. No weird clicking, it sounds normal.

Is it trash or what?

Try a different cable.

Is there a way to get SyncBack (installed on a remote PC) to run backups on the RIP that has the drive connected to it? I keep getting a file path error when I try to clone the entire RIP to its backup drive, but when I select a subdirectory to backup, it works. Why SyncBack is installed on another box I HAVE NO IDEA. IT guy did it.

Gawd I hate Windows. 

Just trying to run simple backups has become a week long project.

I love it when you're trying to create a shortcut and Windows asks "do you want to move or copy this file?"  Um, CANCEL.  :laugh:
