This is a slightly weird one and we haven't been able to find a setting that changes it yet.

There are three of us in prepress here. All have windows boxes, the latest Acrobat Pro, Pitstop Pro, and Quite Imposing+ 5.3. Our Indigo 12k operator has told us that almost every file I set up, he has to tumble because the DFE thinks it's head to toe. Some of the files M sets up he has to tumble, and almost none of the ones set up by J. We all have the same action lists and automations in QI. We use the same preflight profiles.

Is there a setting somewhere I'm missing that would cause this? I just went back to a job J had done without issue and redid it. Waiting for the operator to see how that file works. Files come from all sorts of sources, lots of different custies.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Enfocus / Backup PitStop Pro Prefs and Action Lists
April 02, 2024, 10:18:02 AM
We're getting new peecees (YAY!), and I'm getting the first new one, so i'm the test rat. Apparently what we have now won't run Windows11 they have to upgrade us. So I'm looking for how to backup everything from PitStop as easily and painlessly as possible. I know we can export/import action lists and global changes individually or groups of them if they are grouped. Same for global changes. But can't find a way to do it for prefs for the life of me.

Anything I'm missing? Or are the prefs cloud based so I need to just stop worrying and have a beer?

Enfocus / Action list help, please
January 12, 2024, 12:20:02 PM
Happy Friday!

I have a 1500 page document that consists of account statements of varying page counts. I need to select just the first page of each and then select the logo and addresses at the top and move them up 5/8". The catch is, for some reason there is a mask just above the current position that I also need to remove.

My strategy has been to select the line of text containing "Page 1 of 1", select page with content selected, select region defined by a square, and remove that selection. Then select by a different region defined by a square, and change position 0.625".

I just can't for the life of me figure out how to pull it off.

As it stands in it's all jacked form:
Select All
Select Text containing Page 1 of 1
Select page if content is selected
AND
Select objects inside region
Remove selection
Select All
Select Text containing Page 1 of 1
Select page if content is selected
Select objects inside region
AND
Move by (0in, 0.625)

Second best would be to just select these pages and move all of the content up, but they would prefer just the header.

Thanks!

Enfocus / Pitstop Pro Missing Templates Folder
December 20, 2023, 10:42:32 AM
I'm trying to customize a preflight report but when I go to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat DC\Acrobat\plug_ins\Enfocus\PitStop Pro Resources

There's not templates folder. Just an Artwork folder. So is this just somewhere else, even though the user guide still shows it should be there?

Adobe Acrobat / Acrobat looks like Win7 on Win10?
August 25, 2023, 08:48:10 AM
Sometimes especially after using Quite Imposing 5 or Pitstop (latest) Acrobat will kinda hang and change the bar at the top of the window where the minimize/close buttons to look like Win7. That light blue Aero looking theme when it's usually the dark theme, and the buttons change as well. It seems to run slower as well. Closing Acrobat and restarting resets it.

Also having an issue with Pitstop just hanging and being unresponsive. Can't even just select a different action list or close inspector. The rest of Acrobat seems to work fine. I think these two are unrelated as they don't happen at the same time. The hang seems to be related to the Fix Potential Font Problems preflight. Happens right after that.

Oh, and a blank document with nothing in it does not display white in Acrobat. Same with any unfilled background within a document. But white objects and transparent images will appear white. Does it on both monitors, which are different.

Any ideas?

My coworkers with the same software and hardware, and the IT don't know why, and believe my PC to possessed ;D

General Prepress / A newb and his profiles
July 24, 2023, 01:21:02 PM
Afternoon everyone. We haven't done any color management here, really. I've only been in prepress (digital) for 4 years, and so never learned any. But we have a large color critical client now that really wants this one purple to be this one purple whether it runs on one of the Indigos or the Ricoh toner machine (not getting into the press/copier debate! it's just a toner "machine"). It is a Pantone.

We have a i1Pro and the i1iO robot arm bit for it. i1Profiler 1.3 software that came with it in 2012ish and doesn't support spot readings, and the knowledge they never got it working back then so it just sat like roadkill. I got wind the bosses wanted to get Delta E readings on the presses to pantone swatches, and it being slow right now, I took it upon myself to figure out how to make this thing work because I'm curious, bored, apparently slightly masochistic, and don't mind stress drinking. Had to get an old copy of Color Port, but got it to calibrate and give me Lab values. Then calculated Delta E2000. All good. That is the preferred version of Delta E these days, right?

What I'm very much less clear on is how to use an ICC profile if I can get one generated. See...that i1Profiler software from 2012 that came with the device? Apparently it isn't licensed for profile generation for printers. Dunno if they will drop the dough to bring it up to speed, or if they even wanna go past getting Delta Es. So I dunno if I'll ever need the info, but I am curious. And want to have the answers already when they want to move forward.

So assuming I get one made, does that get embedded into the file, or setup in the RIP? Indigos have their HP DFEs and the Ricoh has an up to date Fiery. I know it has to be done per stock, per machine.

Thanks for any help!
