Sounds like some issues with the Intel's??

Should I just get another pre-intel G5 for $1000 cheaper?
Or is the intel worth the extra $$?
Dont need windows really...we got plenty of pc's.

I've been uneasy about my boss making the large purchase for our small shop.
If the bugs still need worked out and not a major speed difference....
We would rather wait....and just get an old G5.

Also, anyone know of good deals?? We need a new kick ass workstation & basic cs3 upgrade.
As well as pitstop & quite imposing.

Joe

Personally I would not get the G5. It will be a dead platform in the not too distant future. Unless you have to upgrade and still need to use classic I would go with the new Intel Macs.

I agree.  Get the Intel Mac.  We are still using mostly CS, and have the minimum RAM in ours so the speed sucks, but as long as you have enough RAM you shouldn't have a problem.  Besides, CS3 is optimized for the Intels anyway.

I haven't seen many, if any, of the bugs reported because I don't use CS2 anymore.
I don't see any reason to for our work flow, or our archived jobs. Illy CS2 always ran
like a pile for me on PPC, while ID CS2 was pretty smooth. I haven't opened either
of them since 1 week after getting CS3, and I don't plan to again unless really
necessary. CS3 just works and runs faster for me on the Intel box than CS2. Unless you
need the Classic support, I couldn't see buying a G5 at this point.

I've tried it too and can't get it to crash on exit. CS2 12.0.1...

Thanks all...Intel Mac on its way.

How much ram should we get?
(Mid-size shop, but we handle some large files)

Joe

I'd start with a minimum of 2 if money is tight. If you can do it though I'd recommend 4 gig.
