Adobe InDesign / Re: autofit text to frame?
September 19, 2019, 12:59:55 PM
almost, this changes the text box to match the size of the text,

what i have is a pre-defined text box dimension, and i need the text to drop a few points to fit the existing box.

Its an automated business card template (VDP), but the emails are long and need to be adjusted manually. Im hoping to find a way so that the text (not the frame) is reduced to fit on its own.

unless im missing something here..

Adobe InDesign / autofit text to frame?

Is there a way to auto-size type to fit the frame? I know you can do it with placed objects...

Enfocus / Re: Reorganizing the PDF file
September 06, 2019, 12:02:37 PM
can i ask why the client is submitting it all this way? all in one loooong pdf?

if he took 5 freaking minutes to drop that into A3 sheets youd be halfway there already. looks like laziness on the clients part. a little effort on their side would facilitate may things, especially the graphics charges they are going to get.

:deadhorse:

well, you know...

get to charge them an extra 30 minutes for fucking around.

i have another one who is trying to do a 60,000 piece EDDM mailer on her own.  holy shit am i staying far away from that one.

Thanks, what was happening was i had a freeform master selected, it wouldnt allow the "set record length" option. that fixed it right away.

again, a client "helping me out" by doing a data-only merge in one file, and a master in another.

pretty sure ive done this before but im mentally defective this morning.

need to spec a different paper source for even pages on a variable data/uncollated ncr job.

Job source is a 1000 page pdf output, already merged

as im typing this i remembered the record limit setting, going to try that now.

any suggestions?

Adobe Illustrator / Re: Picking a PMS from RGB/CMYK
August 20, 2019, 01:14:19 PM
thanks, i thought this was in illustrator, but PS makes more sense. I was looking in the right spot on the wrong app.

this is for some jackass trying to match a picture of his old atari disk drive to get a plastic filament for 3d printing, trying to get a color match.  There is some outfit which does custom colors but the want a PMS to mix to.  I already gave him a PMS swatchbook to match it with his eyes.

I really think this is the wrong way to go about it but what do i know.

I thought ive done this before, putting an rgb or cmyk sample in the color pallete and it will give you the closest PMS match?

cant seem to do it again... was i imagining it?

Adobe Acrobat / Automating Scans in Acrobat
August 12, 2019, 12:57:12 PM

lets say i have a stack of invoices that i want to grab the invoice number from and save that scan using the info as a filename?

could create an action or task in Acrobat that would OCR a particular section of a scanned document and save the document with the filename of the OCR'd info?

am i making sense?

Well, there goes anyone out the door!
Third kid we had in last four years to walk out.
Management still tries to hire these kids that want to be web designers and graphic designs that don't know shit about printing.

Kid: What's bleed?
Me: Seriously?!

At least they can't fire my ass if I get up and dance naked on my desk. LOL
As of now, almost 99% of printing is done in our department
I've said we need a "digital press person" not some damn graphic designer.
So I'm guaranteed a paycheck for a little bit longer since I'm alone.
Boss tries to help. The key word is "try."

this is why i dont ask for help anymore. i get this exact thing. and then they say they tried to help you. its not help to babysit someone else and still print.

yeah that one you have is nice. im curious if the plates toward the center will slip out? if i remember the grip strength depends on the weight carried..

back when i was in the hardware biz these were popular.  There was another one that was like a 30" long j-hook and it grabbed the sheets from underneath, but this was far superior.

Well I guess the Press supervisor bought this recently, I haven't tried it yet but it's kinda awesome, lifting the handle levers the clamps.
I was hoping for something better but this may be it.

its a gorilla gripper!  https://gorillagripper.com/

I cant test this at the moment, but under the VDP tab in Fiery, check the "Define record length"  box and set it to 1 page.
