Title: Indesign to stop support for Type 1 fonts in Jan 2023
Post by: scottrsimons on February 03, 2021, 11:20:13 AM
Wondering how many of us this "really" effects. I was a bit shocked at first, but then thinking about it, makes sense and is probably long over due. Still going to be some growing pains as usual.

But again, if we just had the Creative Suite on disks, we could just keep an older version and keep on rocking the Type 1 fonts...FOREVER!!

Glad I dropped by, hope my December 2022 version works until they've pulled my lifeless fingers from my mouse, or at least have switched to Affinity Publisher, which should be around 2052...

Oh we have a massive collection here of type 1 fonts. I'll be happy to see them go away.

I think about you folks a lot. Years ago when I was still working 2nd in a huge plant, every now and then one or another of our retired pals would drop by for the evening. No lock on the outside door from the parking lot to the pressroom back then. Now you need a keycard. I've never gone back to that sorry place, though they're still making money. I chat with a couple of Facebook pals that are still working there. Eleven years, man. Sock-in all the overtime you can and get the hell out as soon as you can pull it off. Social Security isn't going anywhere. At least for the next 4 years...

I'm planning on retiring this year. Maybe within 4 months if I get all of my ducks lined up.

after working remotely for several months...

I'm leaning to the "not going back" myself...

haven't made a decision to what extent I want out (freelance at home or just give it up all together)

I've been approached about coming back in if they need something IT related since they are too cheap to hire a real IT person. Haven't made up my mind about that yet mainly because once I go I think I want to be done.

Joe, if you are like the rest of us. Once you decide to go. Make it that way. Don't come back, as you will never leave, or it will be twice as hard to leave the next time. Just leave and enjoy your FREEDOM!!!

Are you still planning to own and operate B4Print?

I am in the midst of deciding if I am going to go back to work, even after it's okay and my kids are back in school. Like I posted before, I think I'm going to go back to trade school and get a certification/degree in IT - network security or something like that. But even after, I might want to only work freelance on my schedule... or part time only... or just do remote work... I don't know if I were ever cut out for an office and after 33 years of doing screen printing, copy clerking, commercial offset, sign-making, etc. I think it's time for a change. I will never have enough to retire on; my wife is taking care of that... plus I have my Mom's estate when she passes (she's 81 this year), so I'm in the lucky position of literally making any choice I want to be happy after 50. My body is so busted up and my mind is fucked and warped and twisted so before the fall I can goof off all I want and then I get to decide what to do with the second *half* of my life and it can literally be anything (pretty much, except move to a new city/state - we actually might sell the in-laws place and get a newer, bigger house together with them to take care of them in their remaining years (my FIL is 86 and a dual amputee in poor health, but my wife wants my MIL to be free to do anything and everything after her knee replacement surgery, so she wants to share a house that we take care of)... and we've seriously also discussed selling everything and moving to a socialist country like Vancouver, BC, Canada or England/Australia to get away from all the crappy politics here). Regardless, I am very lucky and blessed, but I have to grow up now and decide what I want to be after I grow up.

I have no idea what I am going to do in 5 minutes so no clue really if and when that happens. It pretty well runs itself these days.

No, I believe you are like the Grand-Poobah here.

(grand poobah (plural grand poobahs) (idiomatic, colloquial, often humorous) A person who is important or high-ranking.)
