I use AMD in all the machines I build because I'm a cheap bastard. They work... and while technically they clock faster than Intel at a fraction of the price, the Intel is a much more solid and stable chip.
"There's been a lot of research recently on how hard it is to dislodge an impression once it's been implanted in someone's mind. (This is why political attack ads don't have to be true to be effective. The other side can point out their inaccuracies, but the voter's mind privileges the memory of the original accusation, which was juicier than any counterargument ever could be.)"

My 27" iMac must have fixed itself over the weekend because I can't make it do the screen flashing thing again. Guess I'll wait until the next round before I drive it half way across the state to do the AARC.

I've used AMD chips as well and for a while they were out pacing Intel in throughput. Last I looked Intel surpassed them. My last 3 have been Intel mainly becasue the price difference really wasn't that much.

In the Jobs era of apple they said they'd never use a intel chip becasue motorola was faster. The whole RISC/CISC thing and whatnot. Apple will go with whatever works and provides the best margins. They went from innovators to a marketing company that sells hardware.
Speed doesn't kill, rapidly becoming stationary is the problem

I'd rather have stories told than be telling stories of what I could have done.

Intel blew AMD out of the water when they came out with the quad core and then i series. During that time, AMD fell behind when they got more involved with the graphic cards but they're catching up now. I always used AMD until that point.

Waiting for the hexadeca core processor....

Ignignokt: You and your third dimension.
Frylock: What about it?
Ignignokt: Oh, nothing, it's cute. We have five.
[pause]
Err: Thousand.
Ignignokt: Yes, five thousand.
Err: Don't question it.
Frylock: Oh, yeah? Well, I only see two.
Ignignokt: Well, that sounds like a personal problem.

I have AMD's in all of my PCs. They have fallen behind on the Intel i series but they run decent for less money. It would just surprise me if Apple jumped off the Intel bandwagon. But hey, I've been wrong before. Many times.
