Title: Pitstop 2018
Post by: Tracy on June 06, 2018, 09:39:13 AM
The Webinar today was about AND, OR, NOT
I'm a little clearer on these now.
The only thing I didn't understand was when he did:
NOT
AND
I was writing notes when he did this, I can watch the webinar again, but it was quick.
When would you put an AND under NOT?

Not under the pasture, just out to smoke some grass.

I think I have terminal grumpy old man syndrome. I have been binging Deadwood and I find myself using the language from the show a lot. One of these days I'm going to call a customer the favorite Deadwood saying. That will be the day I retire! :rotf:

Oh and GTF off my lawn!

You have to register for them, and as we add more you need to register for the new ones.
They've been running for over three years so we've had a few dropouts.
I'm going to do a push on them in the coming weeks, so expect something in your inbox

I just went ahead and registered for the next 9 of them which is all it would let me register for. One note....where it asks what version of Pitstop I am using Pitstop 2018 was not an option. The last one listed is Pitstop 2017.

This is the first time I did not get invitation, I am sure I was registered.
I'll re-register.

We are now happy licensees of PSPro 2018.  Wheeee!!      On the 2 new iMacs.

Compadre has suggested we keep v12 running on Acrobat XI on one of the older iMacs. If the 'net goes down, we can still do stuff on flies we have, or, if it got hit by a backhoe, (yes, it happened here recently), and we were out for a week, we could get USB sticks and still do jobs.

For some reason, the theme to this in my head was Neil Young's 'Are you ready for the country'; seemed a suitable quiet happy rocky thang...

Just used generate bleed on a crappy 16pp A4 program here.

This is what now constitutes excitement at my age.

I guess because of the stuff we do, and having XMF, we tend to do that in there. But yes, good reminder it's there.

I just got on the Pitstop 2018 bandwagon! Pitstop 12 was crashing DC just about 2/3 times of using one of the inspector tools or the action lists/global changes in the last month or so. Made my life fun. So far 2018 looks way more stable with the current DC build.

Yes, we're just easing into it here. Some annoying changes to Tool accessibility and a few GUi things, but smoother/quicker.
We've gone for the 'dark' theme background here; the other one's super bright.

The new Generate Bleed feature is good, within limitations. I think that may have come in on 2017, which we skipped over, as you would have.

We can have 'groups' of Tools listed down the right side, and therefore reasonably accessible, but is there a way of avoiding to have to use the 'runover/dropdown' for Tools which spill off to the right in the top Menu bar....I have Wireframe and a couple of others there, which I need to dropdown to access. Ideally I'd like to access them from another Menu spillover which runs across underneath the top one. I don't think it can be done.

Also, in that dropdown, I have Sticky Notes and Highlight, which I'd like to flick, and can't seem to be able to.

Right click or Control+Click the menu bar and select "Customize Quick Tools". Click on any icon you don't want up there and then click the trash can icon.

When you go into your Display system pref hold down the option key when you click "Scaled" and it will show you the possible resolutions. Mine is set at 2560 x 1440.

If you want to screw with a co-worker change theirs to 5120 x 2880. They will think they are having a stroke and going blind. :rotf:

I haven't been following this thread but I am wondering if it's worth updating from v.13.

(Note: We rely HEAVILY on pitstop use for smoothing out the junk we get here).
Title: Re: Pitstop 2018
Post by: AaronH on August 02, 2018, 10:28:03 AM
I like the new tools I have access to now. Like ink TAC reduction and minimize file size 3.0. Besides the new tools, I like it because it isn't causing my Acrobat DC to crash every time I hit on the Inspection Tool. I had 12.3 though, so that was probably the problem.

ABC was asking on the webinar yesterday to check out our dashboards.
I can't remember how to get to it, does anyone know?
I think he wants to check how were using preflight.

405 files processed for August, 705 fixes and 6 errors
did you need anything else?
That's pretty cool!!

my most used action was the ink density!!
Title: Re: Pitstop 2018
Post by: abc on September 06, 2018, 12:22:18 PM
Cool, so what's the percentage of files that fail preflight?
Average is 9%

Plus you'll notice you can look at the values over different timelines (top right).
Title: Re: Pitstop 2018
Post by: Tracy on September 06, 2018, 12:34:13 PM
It's not showing in the percentage maybe because it's so small?
I had 2 files fail in august
Title: Re: Pitstop 2018
Post by: Tracy on September 06, 2018, 12:35:12 PM
Ok for the year it was 1%
could be because I fix before preflighting a lot.

When you separate pages in acro using Split, It removes the X4 on some files-not all
I was wondering about the Pitstop Preflight fix for this, see screen shot, concerned about anything
that would cause a problem, mostly at the bottom where it says Set ICC profile to and Set standard ICC
not sure if using that would change color?
Title: Re: Pitstop 2018
Post by: Tracy on September 21, 2018, 10:12:19 AM
When I columbo it, it seems the X4 pdf I made actually isn't X4 compliant-weird cuz it's vector and text
and I didn't get an error out of indy

guess I'm not busy enough today none of this is urgent, just playing
Title: Re: Pitstop 2018
Post by: Tracy on September 21, 2018, 10:13:49 AM
guess it would help if I attached the screen shot
Title: Re: Pitstop 2018
Post by: Joe on September 21, 2018, 07:44:07 PM
I would just uncheck the boxes for those ICC profile things.

Also I wouldn't worry if preflight says they are X4 or not. I just use the X4 settings as a guide for making PDF's but then change the compression from jpeg (lossy) to zip (lossless). There are a lot of things that will make a PDF X4 non-compliant but if the files work for you I wouldn't go out of my way to make them compliant.
Title: Re: Pitstop 2018
Post by: Tracy on September 22, 2018, 10:36:40 AM
Yes I think that is the case, I have my X4 settings for Zip compress too.

Has anyone had problems running action lists? I have this one to check for 320% ink coverage and another one to reduce total ink coverage to 320% or less using the GRACoL profile, however it's not showing any fixes in the report. I have it set to always show results. In this particular PDF, I have ink coverage around 350% but it's not showing up in Pitstop.

Are your images Device CMYK?
it doesn't work unless it's device CMYK for reducing the ink
checking should work
Title: Re: Pitstop 2018
Post by: AaronH on November 13, 2018, 04:07:59 PM
That must have been it. The action lists are working on other files just fine since.

Thanks Tracy!

Happened to me too!
just fyi the only way I found to make Device CMYK without changing the colors too much
is convert to cmyk out of indy convert to destination don't include profiles
let me know if you have a better way!

Monotype have decided not to continue with the Baseline Service, I believe it's turned off now.
Fontfix will therefore only work with local fonts now.
