I had to think about that one, you're correct. I glossed over that on my recent watching with the boys.

That was the example pointed out to us in a news writing class I took. I cried for DAYS.

I probably never would have heard it, if you hadn't brought it up.

Well, now you're feeling my pain. Brings us closer.

I'll never know.

I'm sure that if we combined our efforts, we could find a way to make Joe watch Star Wars, dontcha think, DCS?

Quote from: DigitalCrapShoveler on July 17, 2014, 05:29:24 PMThere was only one answer to that sudden question. Look for the clues, they have an impact. :hello:

This is an acceptable use of the word "impact."

Quote from: Earendil on July 17, 2014, 05:34:22 PMI'm taking a 3 day weekend. Going to impact some water tomorrow and impact some golf balls on Sunday, I know that much.

Catch ya Monday.  :hello:

This is a regrettable use of the word "impact." It's not improper, exactly, but it's frowned upon by the better classes.

Quote from: DigitalCrapShoveler on July 12, 2014, 11:04:08 AMHahaha, since we're doing this through poetry it seems...

I know this crazy Brit named Beer,

But what really strikes me as queer,

Is that he'd rather cut masks,

In Illy, what a task,

When Paste-Inside is so much more dear.
Quote from: DigitalCrapShoveler on July 12, 2014, 11:10:48 AMFreehand it's true is dead,

Adobe we blame for such dread,

Illustrator is left,

A huge toll you will heft,

Because file sizes will make you see red.

Quote from: DigitalCrapShoveler on July 12, 2014, 12:00:08 PMIt is known that Adobe killed Freehand,

This is where we make a stand.

They left us no pick,

It's Illustrator or dick,

Because Freehand belongs in this land.

SUPPORT THE RETURN OF FREEHAND IN OPENSOURCE!
Um ... this poetry thing is ... new. I'm not sure I like it. Proceed with caution.  :undecided:

Quote from: DigitalCrapShoveler on July 10, 2014, 08:55:22 AMBeer, Beer....

I'm not in the state of mind right now to do i this. I am trying to read through the tornado thread, and it's fucking me up... BAD!

Hit me up in a couple days. I'm too overwhelmed by you guys to even try to attempt an argument. Touched...

Blown away... much love to you all. I can't even get past the first page... I need a bit.

You just keep reading your tornado thread and crying your big soft man tears, DCS. I got this handled.

Beer, allow me to offer this elegant response:

Prepare yourself, you know it's a must
Gotta have a friend in Jesus
So you know that when you die
He's gonna recommend you to the spirit in the sky

Goin' up to the spirit in the sky
That's where I'm gonna go when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that's the best

Quote from: DigiCorn on July 07, 2014, 08:44:43 AMWe might be able to get by with the 5,000 records, but what is NCOA?

NCOA is the National Change of Address Database. It's required to get the discount for presorted, automated mailings.

You'll get a CD in the mail every 90 days that contains updates to the NCOA database, and I think the CASS functionality.

Quote from: seratne on July 06, 2014, 06:32:02 PMYouston what did you not like about AccuZip.

We had some pretty specialized needs that AccuZip wouldn't meet without paying them a lot of money for development. And then, when we did get custom solutions from them, they'd usually be buggy. Ended up costing us some key clients. And, after all of the development work, it ended up being about as much as Postal Soft (per year).

Offhand, I don't recall what it was that we needed them to do for us. I just remember we were very excited to get it, and ended up with a very bitter taste in our mouths.

Digi, until my current job, I did this for 6 years, using a variety of different software titles, about which I can say:

You get what you pay for.

PostalSoft is expensive and has an interface straight out of the 1980s, but it's super customizable and really works well. But management at the shop where I used it didn't want to pay for it anymore, so they switched to Accuzip, which is pretty inexpensive. Accuzip SUCKS. We used it a year and switched back to PostalSoft.

I've demoed BCC Mail Manager, but for some reason (that I can't remember offhand) there was something it didn't do that we needed it to do, so we passed on it.

At my last job, I used Satori Bulk Mailer, and again, you get what you pay for. It's super fast, customizable, and the support is second to none.

The learning curve with these products is pretty steep, as you not only have to learn how to use the software, but you also have to be pretty knowledgable about postal regulations.

PostalSoft, Satori & BCC all have comparable pricing. My suggestion is to either outsource the list sorting to someone else, or bite the bullet and buy the big boy software.

Quote from: Slappy on July 02, 2014, 04:25:23 PMWe just got into it, I think we have a demo of BCC Mail Manager, but I'm not the guy handling it thank god, so doubt I can be of much help.

Brother, you have NO IDEA how truthful that sentiment is. It's the most frustrating and thankless thing I've had to do in my entire career in printing.

Quote from: david on June 18, 2014, 06:29:12 AMdo contractions actually count...

seems to be missing something...

possibly a syllable?

not a haiku master, but I'm doesn't have the umph of I am.

Just sayin'

It's important to remember that some words have fewer syllables in Texas. "Retired" is a 3-syllable word for most of us.

(Of course, some words have more syllables in Texas. In the rest of the country, "God" is only one syllable. I've heard preachers in Texas stretch it out to three or four over the course of the 30-45 seconds it takes them to say the word.)

See? 5-7-5!
