Hi All,

We have just upgraded to the latest version of Agfa Apogee (version 6), and we have noticed that on some jobs when we send the IVS (Ink Volume Settings) down to our Ryobi B2 press (to the ink ducts are set for the Press guy), that the black separation profile comes through as empty. And it is always the black. Usually the pressman doesn't notice this until a few hundred sheets as the black ink is dropping down on the press.

Iam not sure if this is a Agfa issue or Harlequin issue, or indeed a Ryobi issue.

Has anyone heard of this before? or any ideas what it might be?

Thanks in advance

Well, for systems running Tiger we connect via AFP and for systems running Leopard we connect via SMB. How would I tell if it's an NFS share?

Thanks Joe

Apparently Apple have removed NetInfo manager in Leopard 10.5 and replaced it with Directory Utility. But in Snow Leopard 10.6 they seem to have removed it altogether, although there is a thing called "NFS Mounts" in Disk Utility now, but it asks for a URL address, how do I find out the Servers "URL" address, as it won't accept an IP...

See attached...

Cheers once again!

Agfa Systems / Re: Job list gone in Apogee X and DNS erros

Just a little question, how do I go about doing this in Snow Leopard?
and if you wouldn't mind, would you be able to give me an example of the addresses I need to enter ie 192.168.1.200 or smb:// etc.

Many thanks again

Hi DCS, sorry for the delay, I did try the hack in terminal, but unfortunately to no avail. I don't know if this little bit of extra info helps at all, but other symtoms are that I can mount the shared volumes (preps, hotfolderroot-(this is what I should see in the ApogeeX job list!), archiveroot, etc) ok via smb and I can see the files and contents fine in the finder, but if I try and look at the files "through" Apogee, (assuming I have a good day, and the job list is there in Apogee!), to display the files on one of the volumes, say Preps, (imagine I want to bring a prep for a new job) the list of all the other preps in that folder takes approx half an hour to just display them! and it's the same if I want to import an archive, the archive list takes even longer, I have tried viewing as "icons" "columns" view modes but makes no difference, it's as though the connection between the Apogee client on the mac to the Xserver1 (main Apogee machine) is like treacle! This doesn't happen on other machines running Tiger or Leopard, just me running 10.6.1, but why should that make displaying files through Apogee client on the mac soooooo slllooowww?
At the minute iam screen sharing to another mac to use Apogee, making my impo on my machine (no problem with preps 5.3.1), it's all very messy!
All I want is to launch ApogeeX in the morning and it works, on 10.6.1, like I said earlier there is absolutley NO support from Agfa. I still haven't got my login details for the Agfa Apogee Forums yet, do they acutally exist or are they something I dreamt one night after eating cheese late that night?!

Just had a thought, when I installed snow leopard, I did so straight over the top of my existing 10.5.8 system, would a clean install have made any difference I wonder, or if I trash my apogee prefs could that help maybe?

Still living in hope!

Thanks so much DCS, I can't wait!
It's like having a steering wheel down my pants at the minute, it's driving me nuts!

Quote from: DigitalCrapShoveler on September 18, 2009, 12:17:51 PMI had to reconfigure my Mac to connect properly. It is a total hack a software engineer taught me. I will see if I can dig it up. My problem with what you are seeing in the AX Client was something I had to do upgrading to Tiger (10.4), which I still run. If you were running Leopard already, I don't understand why you would have to do it now. It could be a hit or miss thing if you are down.

if you could dig up that hack I would be  most grateful, to be honest I'd try anything at the moment, cheers DCS!

Agfa Systems / Job list gone in Apogee X and DNS erros
September 18, 2009, 11:38:41 AM
Hi since I upgraded to Snow Leopard I cannot see any of the jobs in the job list, the Apogee Client on the Mac appears to log on ok.

Before I upgraded I was running 10.5.8, and although I constantly got this error:-
"There seems to be a problem with the network, check the network and DNS configurations of the client machine, and restart the application"
you then click ok, and I get the Apogee client application, but no jobs in the job list, now with Snow Leopard it appears Iam not even getting an error message.

The server which has Apogee on it is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, and we connect to the various shared folders for Preps, HotFolderRoot, ApogeeDataStoreE, ApogeeDataStoreC etc...
I use "smb://Xserver1" to connect to the server and then mount the shared folders on the Mac.
Has anyone ever seen this before? Other people running 10.5.8 occasionally have this problem, but not as often as me!
I have tried to join the Agfa Apogee forums at "http://notes.agfa.com/corporate/MailHand.nsf/gsapmail?OpenForm" they say they will contact you within 48 hours, but I've been waiting nearly 3 weeks!! I find Agfa's Website and support totally shocking!
I hope someone here can help me out.

Thanks in advance

Basically, what I want to know is whether I need to add a gutter to the spine when imposing the job. As burst bound books don't need a grind off, (they are perforated down the spine) do I still need an allowance for this, as you say, you allow 1mm, is 2mm overall ie 1mm to the left and 1mm to the right?
Then the book is to be section sewn into the cover, and I don't know if this requires an allowance in the spine as well, or what other allowances I need to make, if any?

Thanks again in advance!

Hi,
Iam doing a 196pp Handbook and is to be "Burst Bound" and "Section Sewn". Do I need to include a double trim/gutter in the spine of the imposed pages as I would normally do for a "Perfect Bound" book to allow for the grinding/roughing of the pages prior to gluing. As I understand it when "burst Binding" the spines of the imposed pages are "perforated" allowing the glue to penetrate the pages and therefore is not ground at all, so just a normal spine is ok. But if the sections are getting sewn in does this make a difference?

Any Help and explaination would be much appreciated

Thanks
