:cane: ... back in my day, alls we had was wood-burnin' television.
My TV even has tubes!
I have a couple of amps (Fender, Ampeg, Marshall) that have tubes.
I have an old Checkmate tube amp. If you turn it on it squeals really loud. Years ago tried replacing all of the tubes but it didn't help. :(
Does it have a polarity switch?

:rotf: RIGHT! It's set for "Queen mode"

:lmao: But does it go to eleven?

Not that I know of.

born2print and Brian May notwithstanding... tube amps typically have a polarity switch. It has something to do with grounding... back in the day, not all outlets had 3 prongs and the switch was a solution. I also noticed that flipping the polarity switch would do away with HF noise... have been playing and randomly pick up CB radio noise thru the tube amp, etc...
This amp doesn't even have the 3 prong plug and the only switch I see is the on/off toggle switch. Probably manufactured in the mid 60's as I picked it up used in the early 70's. It was a great amp before it started doing this. It gradually gets louder and louder and a good Fonzie smack on the top of it will make it stop for about 30 seconds before it starts all over again.
It is a Checkmate 18. Looks exactly like this one.

what do you use the amp for Joe?
Rockin, silly.
:band:

This but it isn't much fun playing with all of the squealing going on. I've been meaning to pick up a new one but never seem to get around to it.
Nice SG Joe
My guess is tube(s) went bad, it may be repairable but that maybe cost prohibitive.

Yeah a few years ago I replaced every tube in there. Didn't help at all. I'm not sure if you can even find tubes anymore. Probably somewhere on the innerwebs you can I guess.

Thanks. I bought that new in 1973. It cost me $300+. That was big bucks back then.

Eyewateringly expensive.
Apropos the OLEDs; people noticed how quickly LED matrix billboards have taken over from paper paste-up billboards. Like a virus hit them.
Those guys with the big buckets and brooms gonna go the way of film planners/strippers.
Yesterday they've introduced a TV that bends itself depending on what kind of things you watch. It's crazy if you think about that a few years ago the TV was black and white and you had the choice between two channels...

Ahem.... I actually remember it. :-[ Can remember driving many suburbs away to watch B&W TV at friends'.
Back in the day... "Sugarfoot", "Rawhide", "Wells Fargo". I think I wanted to grow up and
be Dale Robertson. Could even be a Dale pose in the avatar. ----> :-[ again.

We used to go flyposting in the dead of night, dodging the cops and taxis (who would call the cops on us). Tried a new tactic - broad daylight, Saturday afternoon, middle of town surrounded by shoppers. Wearing overalls, carrying a big ladder and buckets. Nobody bothered us. At one point a policeman held the ladder for me. They all just assumed we had permission, even though we were sticking up the same band posters as before.
getting a bit off topic here . . .
A clipboard and a assuring nod will get you an amazing amount of places. Just act like you should be there and most people will just wave you through.

I agree, nice Axe. That tremolo is huge! Looks like a piece of steam-punk bindery equipment.

I remember not having TV. It was the early to mid 60's before we had a TV in the house. Zenith B&W. Weighed as much as a Sherman tank. I remember watching the moon landing on that thing.

We must have lived on the same block. Ours was a b & w Zenith as well, bought around 1962 when we got 2 or 3 channels. I remember watching the Beatles on Ed Sullivan when I was 6. The dentist next door bought an amazing colour tv in the mid-60's. Once a year we would get invited over to watch the Santa Claus parade. Good times...
I remember The Beatles on Ed Sullivan too but I couldn't hear it because of my sisters and their friends squealing at the TV. And Bonanza on Sunday night. Have Gun Will Travel on Saturday night followed by Wrestling at the Chase from St. Louis.
I remember, in 4th grade, after school.... The Fall Guy was on at 3:00 followed by He-Man and The Master's of The Universe. After the news, it would be Dukes of Hazard, Knight Rider, A-Team, Airwolf, etc... depending on what night it was.

Oh man, Pre-WWF Wrestling. Good stuff.
the Von Erichs.... fun stuff!

A-Team, Knight Rider, Airwolf... They are the heroes of my childhood!
"B.A., take this Cola can and build me a tank!" - "OK Hannibal, no problem!" Cool days back then.
:mrt: I pity da fool who didn't watch A-Team.

"I love it when a plan comes together!"
Ear, how old are you? We should be pretty much the same age, I've watched all those series during my years at Elementary School, too.
Ahh the shows of my childhood. I even had the Airwolf static model.
Ear's about 12 or so.
Oh right I forgot here's a bunch of 12-year-olds... :rotf:
The amazing thing about these series was that no matter how many bullets they've fired, nobody ever got killed. The good side would always win and the bad side would always get their ass kicked. Life should always be like this.
Nobody ever ran out of bullets, either. If they did, it was the bad guy, or another good guy had plenty to spare.
Killed? There wasn't even a drop of blood.
The bad guys did all go to the stormtrooper school of shooting though. Maybe, maybe once a season one of the main characters might get clipped to add tension but again, no blood.
Actually nobody can be as bad in shooting as the bad guys... They're firing at least a thousand rounds with a machine gun, but not a single bullet hits the target.
No blood, but I remember Face regularly got his teeth knocked out... And the bad guys regularly got their eyes blacked.
Yeah! and why do storm troopers wear useless armor and helmets? :wtf:
So they don't get knocked out bumping into doors.

I'm 12 at heart and mind but my body has made 41 laps around the solar system. I figure maintaining my juvenile demeanor makes me a time traveler.

Coolest thing about that was that the model was fucking hot!
