Digital Printing / Book files to Smartstream

Can I output a book file (multiple files combined in a book list) to Smartstream from Indesign CS6?

sent from InDesign CS6 via SmartStream BTW

I have a variable data job that also has spotwhite and I can't get it to print correctly! Have done other spotwhite jobs before and have tried several different things to no avail.

This is an advertising piece for our company for which we received the files from HP. Previous versions worked but did not have actual variable data.

The text blocks are set on the diagonal, but I am sending them over "rich" because the list is very short, so I wouldn't think that is the problem. Plus I'm not getting any messages about that in preflight.

I have a block of black type (diagonal) containing variable data. It's on top of a photo with a 40% paper-colored (white) screen over it. It won't show up.

Then I have the customer's name over and over again in spotwhite by itself. This block of type a) is on the diagonal and b) has overset text because some customers have shorter names than others. However, the flyout menu on the "channels" menu has "ignore overset text" selected.

I have tried multiplying the text fields, not multiplying them, changing the layers they're on, changing the order of the layers. Nothing works. Ideas?

Agfa Systems / Re: imposition

sooo, what I ended  up doing was making all the pages double-sided flat pieces. Then after apogee did whatever it wanted, I dragged the pages around and fixed all the gutters and gaps and bleeds so it would print right. I'd still like to know if there's an easier way.

Agfa Systems / imposition

How do you impose two different types of products in one apogee 9 job? I have an 8.5x11 brochure I want to gang with a 12 pg 5.5x8.5 book, but I can't figure out how to put an unbound flat double sided piece as a different part with a saddle stitched product.

Thanks for the suggestion, but no, Apogee has its own imposition system now, and we're supposed to use it if we don't have an existing Preps template. We ended up just making a different part for each business card, using Apogee impose on it, then fixing the screwy imposition it came up with.

Agfa Systems / Apogee 9 apogee impose page numbering
April 03, 2015, 06:38:55 AM
We want to print 14 business cards together, all the same back, all the same colors, all the same qty. Do we need to make a different part for each business card, or can we renumber the pages in the imposition? We can renumber pages in saddle stitched jobs, but i'm wondering if the flat work style is just configured differently.

Thanks! that worked. Didn't know I could do that.

On the HP Indigo 5500: Is there a way to put a center cross for fold marks in the center of an 5.5x8.5 8pg imposition which has a .25 head trim (.5 horizontal gap)? There are "special marks" listed, but none of them seem to be what I need.

Adobe InDesign / Re: Placing PDFs
October 16, 2014, 12:26:56 PM
So what I really wanna know is, can I just turn off the PDF warning somehow? It'll be a piece of cake if I can do that, 'cause I have a script to place the pdfs.

The font is Arial TrueType, which I don't have and can't find. I have Arial Bold, Bold Italic, and Italic TrueType fonts, and can also find them online, but not just plain Arial.

The reason I have to put them in Indesign is to send 2 up to the digital printer.

Adobe InDesign / Placing PDFs
October 16, 2014, 10:35:06 AM
I have to place a customer supplied pdf w over 1700 pages into Indesign. I have a script to do this quickly.  I have turned on all my "Arial" fonts, but I still get a PDF Placement Warning that "The following fonts aren't currently available: Arial". Sent a test to the digital press they will be printed on, and it looked fine. I have been looking, but can't find a free Arial ttf download that I don't have to register on their site, which I don't really want to do. Is there a way to turn off this warning so that I don't have to hit OK for every page it imports?

Hey, thought I would give you an update on what was going on...

I tried to set up the new workflow, but we did not have the export icon available. I ended up calling Agfa, and the tech said, well, looking at your file, it was not set up correctly, so I'll do that for you now.

BUT the color bar still wasn't showing up.

It was in the PDF rendering. It could not render our color bar eps, so he added a feature that changes the color bar to a pdf. So now it works.

I appreciate your help; it will help me in the future when I want to export something with our newly added export feature!

Thanks,
deedee

Thanks, we will try this on Monday. We tried to set one up but could not find a block named "export".
