Quote from: frailer on March 25, 2009, 10:51:13 PMWell, we got another one this week...

Seems there's some sort of solution to the jpeg problem. I tripped over it here:

NoGeekLeftBehind

I did exactly what the geek said, named it MessedUp.bin, just for laughs, dropped it over Stuffit Expander, and it uncompressed it, it got similar-name-but-different to the orig.

Screenshots of error message in PhSh below, as well as the code when I tried to place it in Indy. Which is where I got the BinHex 4.0 clue from...led to the "geeks".
Freakin' thing was masquerading as a "normal" jpeg. Doesn't surprise me, given the source.

Edit: I still don't get it. There's the DG, and a Publications guy who sends stuff like that on to us. But as far as I'm aware, they're both on Macs. So I can't see a platform diff creating this problem...

I believe the problem is the compressed file was made without adding the extension to the file name. Once removed from the Apple File System (internet/email) you lose the resource fork and then the destination Mac does not know what kind of file it is.

"Ah, the old  "Lost Resource Fork" trick, Chief. One of the oldest tricks in the book!
