Had a good one the other day....my co-worker asked me to do her a favor and save a pdf from a file she had been working on. She said everytime she tried to save one, her indesign would crash. I opened it on my machine and tried to export and sure enough, it crashed. So I asked where the original document was, opened it in CS3, exported and everything was fine. The moral of the story? I guess open your documents in the version they were created in......   :banghead:

Not a moral to a story... a rule to abide by. Native output should always be done in the originating application. Too much to risk. The ONLY times you should output from an app other than the originating app, is IF you don't have it, or for troubleshooting options.

Somewhere around here is a link to an InDesign version opener. It basically acts as a traffic manager for InDesign jobs... If you have several versions of InDesign on your machine, it will choose the appropriate version to open the supplied file in. And... it works. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Is it Intel compatible? I need a new one. I miss Norton Disk Editor, open up PS files navigate somewhere midway, start typing and save. Leaves the created and modified dates alone. Used sparingly when I didn't feel like making color keys and I wanted DCS to have to do them on the next shift when they brought in new support. Good times.
Oh by the way, YOU'RE WELCOME!

From what I can tell, the app checks the document type and creator codes, a thing you can do manually wit http://www.skytag.com/filebuddy/ dunno if that is intel compatible either.

That looks like a pretty good utility, jez.  Thanks for the info...am thinking on it...

Recover text from any file works great, doesn't it?
