Quote from: hotmetal on January 12, 2024, 04:51:24 PMI've been bashing my head against my keyboard all week. I only have one client anymore, I've been doing odd jobs with her for years. That said, I get about 3 or 4 jobs a year from her, we work really well together. She's in California, I'm in Minnesota. We've never met, but we text back and forth regularly.

What I seem to be seeing is that sleazy ADOBE's monster is uploading my files and "fixing" them for me. When I build a project for her, I'll use several layers and a couple fonts and downloaded images. Nothing fancy, but a couple times a year she'll give me a nice, interesting, fat book to design. I'm paying $50/month to be insulted like this. Breaking it down by week, that's $12.50, that's a couple beers at my local bar. I can work with that.

Now... NOW... NOW!!! every time I get something working just fine, ADOBE reaches in during the night and jams everything into an impossible pile of crapy PDF junk, which may or may not have layers, and it really seems like ADOBE is doing this because they think people like myself are too stupid to know what they're doing, and likely to STEAL SOMETHING if they don't toss something in line to keep me from getting any work done.

It certainly appears that ADOBE is TERRIFIED that I MIGHT STEAL SOMETHING, so they make it really, really hard for me to get anything done without a lot of yelling and screaming (when my wife isn't home, of course.)

What am I missing?
Hotmetal, you can call Adobe and tell them you only use the applications once in a while and that its not worth it for that price. They knocked me down to the student price 32.99/month for a year. And then every year I call and they renew it at that same rate. It's not much but it'll put a few more beers in your belly.  ;D

I went into the Manistee, MI historic museum to talk to them about the house we are restoring and found this beaut! Sent it to the ex hub (pressman) bc he's looking for a new job.  ;D

Quote from: pspdfppdfxhd on December 01, 2023, 07:27:49 AMI think everything will be ok except for Quark, but we'll have to keep the old one just to run that. To ask the client to update Quark and buy a new computer...not happening.
Is Quark not dead yet? My coworker picked up a side job for a magazine layout and she will work with a group of designers. The guy running it had them vote which program they will use. I thought she was going to say Quark or Indesign. No! It was between Indesign and Canva! I told her I wouldn't have taken the job. The fact that you are with 6 other designers on a shared layout would have been enough for me to pass let alone Canva. Indesign won but there were "designers" who voted for Canva. I guess she can see how it goes. I would have told that guy I'll do the entire layout and everyone else can work on ads.

You have to right click the object to bring up some options, go to interactive, then click convert to object.

Tell them 3 positives made a negative.

I was thinking it was the same problem I have but its not. This is mine...
I create a filled box, throw outlined type on top of it and do a minus front.
See those shapes it added? You cannot select them, they aren't there. I've tried expanding, dividing instead of a minus front, dividing all of it out of a bigger box. You know what gets rid of it? View using CPU.  :faint:

Looks like a stroke overlapping issue. Its an outlined font with a centered stroke. And then the white type on top of it. It being centered is the problem because its so thick the inside overlaps the outside. See the video link. When you outline the stroke the white thing appears.

https://vimeo.com/863397375?share=copy#t=0

You can fix it a few ways. But I changed it to an outside stroke and divided the stroke weight in half. (11 to 5.5) That was all really. You can also outline the stroke, unite in pathfinder, delete the white thing and set behind the white type but that's more steps and you lose the stroke.

Slappy, I sent you a file.

DCS would say to bring it in to the almighty Freehand.

I have this problem in Illustrator when I outline fonts and then divide them out of shapes. I have to find a work around just to show the proof. Can you open in Illy and try switching the viewing between CPU and GPU to see if it changes? I'm interested too if you want to send me the file.

Adobe Acrobat / Re: Reducing pdf size
August 31, 2023, 09:18:46 AM
I come across this problem all the time. My issue is they want to attach CLE Course materials in emails, not link. It's dumb bc they are provided a QR code to download the material during the course but then they want to follow up with it attached in an email after the course is over. If they wanted to keep it, they would have saved it. Or just use the QR code again.

Super censored. You can't say "guns, hookah, cannibal, grenade, ballistic missile." I successfully created an image of an aircraft carrier getting blown up but I had to work around the no no words.

If you use the word "sexy" it will add bewbs to whatever you are referring to. :rotf:
