I just went to the folder that had an older version of Illustrator and grabbed the two .acb files that I needed because they were not available in the latest versions of Illustrator and InDesign. Copied them to /Applications/Adobe InDesign 2023/Presets/Swatch Libraries and /Applications/Adobe Illustrator 2023/Presets.localized/en_US/Swatches/Color Books. Was back in business after that.

General Prepress / Re: Batch QR Codes
April 19, 2022, 11:41:01 AM
Thanks, but maybe I am reading that wrong, that looks like it's adding a existing QR code to a layout using Data Merge. I'm looking for a way to batch create the codes. We did find an online source to do it, https://high-qr-code-generator.com/bulk-qrcode.html. I just hate using those rogue sites.

General Prepress / Batch QR Codes

We need to create about 200 unique codes. Also, they need to be easily identifiable so we know what code goes with what. Any easy way to do this?

Have a customer asking about using these on some signage. Does anyone have any experience creating these?  Any info on these is appreciated.

Digital Printing / Re: 5th Color
April 21, 2021, 11:04:31 AM
We have a Ricoh Pro C7100x with the 5th color unit that I run. We print a lot with the white and clear and the results are great. We also have neon yellow and pink although in the 2 + years we have had the machine I've yet to print using those colors. All the 5th colors came with the machine. The metallics are still not available as far as I know. I would ask for a date when they will be available.

File setup for the 5th colors is very easy. Changing out the 5th color is easy too, but a little time consuming.  Takes me about 15-20 minutes.

This issue just appeared for me this week. It's a desktop BW printer that I don't print to very often. As a workaround, I deleted the printer and added back using Generic Postscript Printer.

Adobe InDesign / Re: Linked Word Doc font issues

So, it gets better. Started noticing the text in the ID file and PDF they sent didn't jive with the Word docs. The linked Word docs were not the correct files. I pushed back on the designer. She unlinked the Word files and problem solved.

I noticed when I import a .doc file into InDesign 2020 it is not linked. How do you make it be a linked file?

You can link Indesign files into Indesign files as well, that's a treat to deal with sometimes

Ya, that's always fun.  :sarcasm:

When importing check the box for "Show Import Options" shown in first screen grab. When that dialog opens select the two items circled in the second screen grab.

Thanks, Joe, but I'm not importing them. They have already been imported by the designer. My issue is they have been modified and when I update the link, all the formatting is lost.

It's 178 pages so it would be a lot of manual work. They had several people collaborating on the text, thus the multiple Word docs. Poking around, I found my answer from Adobe:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign/linking-microsoft-word-and-indesign-tracking-the-changes/td-p/8909091?page=1

"You can change your preferences to create links when placing text and spreadsheet files, but after an update you will lose your formatting. (Then only exception to this is if you use styles in Word that match the style names in InDesign.)"

Ugh, so this should be fun

They did provide a PDF, no bleed of course, so I am going to try and utilize as much of that as I can.

Adobe InDesign / Linked Word Doc font issues
May 06, 2020, 08:57:08 AM
Was provided an ID file with multiple word docs placed as links. All of them are modified when I open the ID file. When I update them, they seem to be holding onto the font from word instead of the font it was set to in ID. For example, before I update them in ID, says the font is Avenir Next. When I update them, the type defaults to Calibri, which is the font used in the Word document. Is there a preference on my end that I need turned on or off?
