Adobe Acrobat / Overprint Mode - Acrobat DC/Pitstop 12
August 03, 2017, 11:06:51 AM
Hey everyone,

Is there a way to convert all of my overprint modes that are set to the illustrator overprint to standard? I have a host of PDF magazines I have to open, saves as an optimized file, convert images to RGB (using acrobat's color conversion), save, then convert images to CMYK (again using acrobat's color conversion). This is to remove most of the close to 400% ink values. Once I'm done, the PDFs still have some drop shadowy elements that are causing ink limits well over 300%. Is this possible to convert them all to standard vs illustrator overprints? I know you can right click and tell it to go to OP0, or click and change it in the Inspector window.

Thanks!

Macintosh / Apple Hardware Test Error Code
July 19, 2017, 06:11:04 PM
Hey guys, hoping someone has had experience with this one. I've been getting these weird colored squares show up on my display they seem evenly spaced and show up in bright vivid neon-ish/pastel colors and they're small, maybe 1/8th of an inch big with same spacing in clusters. I figured my graphics card is giving up the ghost. The iMac I'm on is a 2011 so it's not unlikely to get hardware failure, heck, my harddrive failed late last year and had to be replaced - got an SSD out of it so that was cool.

Anyway, I run the Extended Apple Hardware Test and get an error code: 4SNS/1/40000000: TH00-9.000

From what I've been able to gather, the 4SNS means a sensor, the T means Temperature and the H means Harddrive. Other than that I'm finding people needing logic boards, cables, fans, motherboards and graphics cards replaced who have described my issue or error code. My iMac is six years old at work and I'm wondering if I should talk to the owner('s son) about getting it repaired or should I get a new or refurbished iMac or Mac Pro.

Thanks guys!

Macintosh / Volumes Not Staying in Login Items
June 05, 2017, 05:45:52 PM
I'm having a problem since at least I updated to 10.12.5 where I can't get network volumes to stay in my Login Items. Does anyone else have this issue?

I've attached a few images, one of my system specs, one showing what happens and one showing what I want it to do. This happens every time my computer display shows the screen saver. Any drives added to Login Items vanish after the screen saver is displayed which prompts me to enter my password. Any drives (save for the Office one), already attached, usually stay there on my desktop (also see attached - I have them show on my desktop so I know if they are there or not).

Thank you guys!

I've got a problem I'm hoping you guys can help with. We've finally managed to convince management to can our external IT company. They're charging us $250 a month to "monitor" 11 computers (PCs and Macs), however their software doesn't work on all but three of them and one of the three has been powered off for several months now. I was able to update to Sierra last fall and when that update happened, the IT company's software stopped working. I had a hard drive fail before the Sierra update, and we were able to get them to swap out my 1TB SATA for a 500GB SSD but that is the last we have heard from him.

Since the Sierra update, his program is unable to actually update anything, I was reading about 3rd party applications being unable to do this in the new Sierra environment. When Sierra came out, his website even mentioned that they are dropping support for Apple computers, however he still charges us money every month to "monitor" the 11 computers he doesn't actually monitor.

Anyway, for whatever reason, we cannot get a hold of him to get our machines "clean" of his monitoring software *cough*malware*cough. I finally was able to get instructions to remove the monitoring client from his parent company, Watchman Monitoring. Their instructions are here: https://support.watchmanmonitoring.com/hc/en-us/articles/705065-Removing-the-Monitoring-Client

Now, I was able to get rid of his monitoring software. At first uninstalling via the client, a preference pane within system preferences, it would come back - reinstalling it self within 5 minutes of uninstalling it. After deleting the files in Library, a few times, they kept coming back for about half an hour, I've been free of them for about a week now. Unfortunately, I'm unable to do a software update because of the attached plist file, saved as a TXT document, the address string for the update server is not pointing to Apple. I can't get it to go back to point to apple. I delete it and it comes back, just as attached.

Do any of you know how I can get this to point to Apple? I've tried everything I can think of. Web searching isn't helping either because this company is local and practically non-existent at this point.

CMS - Proofing - Printers / Oris RFP questions...
April 10, 2017, 05:51:59 PM
So since our older large format proofers have died and I have no idea when management plans to replace them, we are stuck with our 9900 for now. Our Fuji tech only setup our 9900 to run with one paper. Oddly it was setup to run on ORIS Pearl paper, even though we've been running Epson Semi Matte 260 GSM paper.

So now I'm trying to get a new RFP setup to work on the paper our older proofer plate maker guy keeps ordering... HP Coated 90gsm 24lb paper. It has a kind of matte finish so I dig through the paper selection dropdown. Nothing close so I choose Enhanced Matte, print the correct linearization form and scan away. I'm getting a density of C 0.93, M 0.66, Y 1.08 and K 1.26.

The next step in the manual says to reduce my values by 0.15 to 0.20 more than the actual press we are trying to simulate. My pressmen like to run 1.00 for both cyan and magenta, then 0.95 for yellow and 1.15 for black. How in the heck do I "reduce" my yet lower numbers to be more than 1? This manual makes no sense.

I tried setting them in manually but get an error that my numbers are higher than measured and will produce strange results. What do I do?  :banghead:

Hey Everyone,

Our proofing has gotten a little interesting at work. We have an Epson 9900 for our high res color proofs, then we had an older 9600 we had to run off flats for bindery, and make low end proofs or mockups for our customers. Apparently the 9600 was purchased used to replace a 9890 that had stopped working about 6 months before I started at this shop, so about 2 years ago. Well our 9600 is now dead (printing on hp paper with incorrect settings and scratched our printhead up like no ones business) and we can't get it to print. We got a free 10600 from a buddy of the owner but it arrived broken and I'm having to repair parts for an old machine that we have no ink for. Since the 9890 and our 9900 use the same exact ink, my cohort thought, "Hey, why don't we pull the 9890 out of storage and see if we (he means me) can get it running again."

Anyway, I've run 5 normal cleanings, 2 power cleanings and 1 SSCleaning from the maintenance menu and I can't get a single dot to print. The maintenance tank is even bone dry. I'm guessing the ink tubes are dried up? Anyone have any ideas I can try to get this working again? I'd really appreciate it. I don't want our proofer/plate maker guy to screw up another machine (our 9900) any more than he most likely has.

Thanks!
Aaron

Edit: I forgot to mention it has an Error Code: 4000 maintenance request when you first boot it up. I looked it up on google and I guess it means clogged nozzles...

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forums but I've landed here a few times in searches to solve various issues in the past. I was hoping someone here has made the courageous leap to Mac OS Sierra? Are there any bugs I should know about? I have Yosemite now and was going to update to El Capitan but apparently I missed the boat.

I have another compatibility question regarding a font manager and Sierra but should I post that in a separate area of the forums? I'm using FontAgent Pro 4.202. Is anyone else using it?

Thank you for your help!
Aaron
