This is probably not possible from what I'm reading but maybe someone has an easier way to do this. I'm laying out a legal magazine that needs endnotes put at the end of each chapter. I'd like them to be added to the end of the story text box rather than its own text box. It's set up as 3 columns and I'm taking the endnote text box and manually changing the size to the width of the column and placing it at the end. I can't copy and paste them at the end without losing the endnote connection. Is there a way to do this or does it need to be separated? It's not at big deal but I already have to manage flaky formatting from Google docs files. Super duper rare occasion I ask for a Word file instead. This is how I want to to look:

Adobe Photoshop / Remove Paper Shine from Scan
March 17, 2022, 10:44:25 AM
Does anyone know an easy way in Photoshop to get rid of the glare from a scanner? We are using a roll scanner that is meant for blueprinting so there are no special settings on it. I don't keep up with Photoshop's newest features and can't find anything about this specifically. I did it manually and it took about an hour but if there's a trick you have for any future projects, please share.

Adobe InDesign / Disable Hover Scroll
February 10, 2021, 01:15:27 PM
For sake of my sanity, how do I turn off hover scroll? I've hated this "feature" for years. I just picked up a ton of freelance work and cannot deal with it. I'm not even sure if it's an Adobe feature or Apple. I'm ready to go get an old school mouse with a scroll wheel instead of using the Magic Mouse (which I love) bc of this stupid feature.

Random Technology / NEW Océ UVgel Technology
November 02, 2016, 03:21:19 PM
I've been getting teasers from the Canon guys on this new technology they are launching in the spring. They wouldn't tell you anything. We're dealers so I got to go to a private "behind the curtain event" to see this new machine. They talked it up like it was the second coming for over a year. They have not released the name of the machine yet and I had to sign some non-disclosures so I can't even talk about it yet. But I can say that it's a UV cured gel 64" roll to roll machine and it blew me away. And my expectations were set pretty high. Hopefully, they will choose us to be used as a beta site so we might get one in January.

Can't wait to be able to talk about it.

We have an Océ 9060 which is a Mutoh ValueJet 1604 badge over. Our company sells Océ machines and services them. The Océ guys hate me. I'm constantly calling their bullshit. When the one salesman is in here, I always ask him how he sleeps at night.

We keep 2-3 ink cartridges each on hand. I go to replace the black on Thursday and it says "non original ink". I try to use the other 2 and same thing. I put the old one back in and it's fine, it just says "ink near end." Océ overnights us 3 new cartridges and same thing. The other colors work fine. I was thinking it was the reader but the old ink reads.

I read about doing an ink charge may fix the issue along with a bunch of other suggestions. I never got passed ink charge because now it's stuck on "insert ink cartridges" bc it's not reading them.
Océ sends us 3 new chips this morning. Same.

I called the tech Friday and he never returned my call. Boss calls Océ this morning and after a few hours of stupidity of them not being able to find us or the serial numbers in their computer....seriously a couple of hours of this......they tell us they stopped servicing that machine at the end of 2013. No one has warned us about this. The machine is 4 years old. They are still selling us consumables and evidently, black market black ink.

So we call a Mutoh guy and I tell him what's going on with the inks. He said only Océ can fix it because it's their chipset. Also, they might have to go into it with their laptop. No one can fix it but them and it sounds like their chips are the problem. We called him back and told him Océ told us we're SOL. He used to work for them and sounded like he's had his battles as well. He's going to try to find out wtf is going on but basically, we now have a machine we can't use and have to buy another. That is what Océ is telling us.

Adobe Illustrator / Preview Mode
May 22, 2013, 10:40:14 AM
Illustrator STILL doesn't have a preview mode like Indesign's? Tell me I'm missing it. I very rarely set up a design in Illy but for what I'm doing I need to use it. (CS5) PITA to have to create a bleedless PDF and view in Acrobat every time I want to check it out.

Anyone experienced with crack free digital stocks and which are you using? I cannot remember what we used at the last shop but I do remember it was a damn lie.

General Prepress / Collage Design Time
September 14, 2012, 04:26:01 PM
I need to come up with a price for these collages. I've made these 2 for people at work so they were free but now I have customers who want these. We would normally charge $50 an hour for design. I have a huge collection of "scrap kits" that I use for the "elements" of the design. It really doesn't take me long at all to put together. The scanning and photo correcting if there is any is what takes time. I'd say 2-3 hours all together if using a kit I already have. For most materials, we charge around $6 a square foot. The customer would be spending between $20-$50 on average for one print. What do you think is a fair price for a one time design charge? I keep telling my boss $100 but I really have no idea. I need opinions.

Does anyone have the "convert format of word document" action for Automator. I'm using OSX. I'm not sure if it's an action you install with Word but I don't have it in my actions list.

Items Wanted / Hydraulic Guillotine Paper Cutter
March 08, 2012, 09:49:16 AM
I'm looking for a used cutter for our digital jobs. Something no bigger than 20" cut length and hydraulic clamp. Not picky about programmable or manual back gauge. Bossman is looking for a good deal on a used one. I'm not sure why, we have a place that cuts our jobs for free but he asked me to find one. PM me if you have something we might be interested in. Thanks!

Items for Sale / Mutoh ValueJet 1604 - $4500 OBO
February 07, 2012, 12:44:31 PM
This machine was run for around 2 years at my old shop and was in an area of the shop that survived the fire. It hasn't been powered since October 10, 2010 so I can't list it as working properly. It most likely needs a new head if it can't be cleaned ($1200), new lines (I don't know the $), and a new maintenance assembly ($425). I'm not sure of any other parts that may be damaged from not being powered for so long. I had replaced the maintenance assembly on this machine in Fall 2009 with no problems, but I have never replaced a head or lines so I can't tell you if that's an easy process or not. Maintenance assembly, no problem. I just did it on the exact same machine at the new shop I work for last week.
This is a great machine, I'd ask my new boss to jump on it if we didn't already have one.

$4500 OBO

Send me a PM!

Items for Sale / Konica Minolta BizhubPro C6501
January 18, 2012, 01:03:41 PM
Konica Minolta BizhubPro C6501

It's brand new. The last shop I worked at burned down and the insurance replaced the machine and bossman has decided to not start up a new shop so he's selling the replacement. He paid $117,000 for it new and he's asking $40,000 OBO. $32,000 OBO
It is in NW Indiana.
PM me if interested.

Edit: I was under the impression it was brand "spanking" new but it was actually used for 3 months and has 100,000 a hair over 1,000,000 clicks.

Adobe Illustrator / Stroke corner issue
December 05, 2011, 03:08:15 PM
Can anyone tell me why some of my corners are beveled and some are pointy? It's part of the same shape and I want them all to be pointy. I'm wondering if the angles are too slim??

Anyone know if there's a way to have any effects used on an object in Indy to scale down with the object without having to change it manually? Somehow I'd like to connect them. I created a logo in AI and want to keep it a vector file. Flattening it is out of the question. The desired effect I wanted I did in Indy but scaling the logo keeps my effects the same measurements and I'd like them to scale down with the logo. There's probably not a way to do it and I can't get the kind of bevel I want in AI. Well.......not simply. I guess I can use the mesh tool or mess around with paths or Smart objects and do my bevel in PS but I'd like to see if this is possible........because I'm lazy.

Macintosh / Problem with External WD 1TB HD
August 30, 2011, 09:53:21 AM
The exFat formatted HD I have been using to store art is giving me trouble. I noticed yesterday that everything in my vector-animals folder is gone. That's the only thing missing, I believe. I tried to copy to and off it and it gave me an error. I tried to Verify Disk Permissions but it was grayed out. I took it home last night backed it up on my external at home. Most copied over except a few things that gave me this error: "Cannot copy "XXXX". Data error: Cyclic redundancy check." I brought it back to work and it won't mount on my mac. It shows up in Disk Utility and right now I'm running a repair. It's probably got about 600-700 GB used and it's been repairing for about 20 minutes right now. 1st, does anyone know about how long it should take to repair and also does anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong? Running OSX v 10.6.6.
Thanks :)

Random Technology / Printing on a fleece blanket
July 21, 2011, 02:23:12 PM
Do any of you know how the "professionals" print to a fleece blanket? We have a flatbed printer/UV cured ink and they want me to print an image to this fabric. I taped a small piece of it to a board and set the thickness way high and the threads still hit the print head and made it look dirty. I'm afraid to screw up the machine. Bossman said to get that adhesive plastic you stick on carpet for open houses to adhere to the back side so that the material will suck down to the bed. I still don't like this idea at all. I can't find anything on the web about it so I thought someone here might have experience with it.

Macintosh / ExFat Format
April 06, 2011, 12:21:14 PM
I just got external 1 TB hard drive that I need to use on mac and PC. I just now noticed the ExFat format in Disk Utility on OSX 10.6.6. After reading of all it's glory, I went with ExFat. I still have yet to try it out on my PC. Anyone have problems with this format? I can't believe it's been out this long and I'm just discovering it now.

I probably should have checked it out before I threw 600 gigs on it.  :drunk3:
