Quote from: Possum on October 28, 2014, 10:01:58 AMI've got a 2011 at work, at least I think it's a 2011, 27". It's got the DVD drive. It didn't have the no-good hard drive that had to be replaced.

Sorry to hear about yours; mine has given me no problems.

Consider yourself lucky. The 2011 model has been plagued with video issues for a lot of users. The tech told me yesterday they were related to heat and Apple finally admitted to it (though not publicly and the only way they will fix it is if you have AppleCare). The board he replaced yesterday is supposed to make the fans run better to keep it cooler. And it does. I could have roasted marshmallows over the top of it before. It is much cooler up there now.
haha... I wish I could have been a fly on the wall for that conversation. Joe quietly extracting inside info... the man from kentucky would not have been aware it was happening.
Does he like Bluegrass?

Probably. He looked like an extra from Deliverance. ;D

I ended up preordering the Fire TV. For $20 I figured what the hell. My Roku has gone flaky anyway.

I'll let you know in January when I get it.

Yup, amazon prime members can preorder until today 6:00 PM PST I believe. Otherwise it's $39.

This is the stick, not the full FireTV.

Hmmm, everything I've seen on it, list the price at $100, and Prime Members at $80.

I'll look into it.

Yeah I see the same thing DCS sees. I'm a Prime member also. Where have you found it for $20? And why would you have to pre-order it? It has been out for awhile now.

Oh I see now. It is NOT the Fire TV. It is the Fire TV Stick. Amazon's version of the Google Chromecast. :puke2:

Yea, I edited it. I didn't realize there was the stick and the FireTV.

I logged into my Amazon account (Prime) and it shows up as $39. I would maybe buy it for $19 just to see if it sucks as bad as the Chromecast.

The discount doesn't apply until checkout. It ships Jan 5th.

I figured for $20 it was worth a shot.

I added it to the cart and it still showed up as $39. And it stays at $39 all the way until the final "Place your order" button which I'm not doing at $39.00

Okay, I just read "More specifically, Prime members have 40 hours—or until 9am ET on Wednesday" so it looks like I missed it. Probably a good thing. ;D

not having one of these devices, do they work as well with a dsl connection or do you really need something faster?

My Roku and netflix didn't have an issue with the slow DSL I have. At times it would buffer but not all that often.

Amazon prime video would buffer horribly.
