I rejected a customer file because I thought it was sent in as RGB.

Just started happening.

Any ideas?

not anymore, we used to over at Quad.
Doing gray balance?

No we are printing these gift card carriers with varying 4/C backgrounds and another plant is saying they read LAB's from the press OK and run to that on subsequent runs.

I just don't see how accurate that can be?

Is anyone reading LAB values of CMYK builds on press?

So this comes up about once a year when the pressroom prints long for some reason and they always bring up "why don't we distort our printing plates" to which I reply because that's an asinine idea.

Is anyone doing this on a regular basis?
Shouldn't require it for offset sheetfed printing ever. Only really required in flexo where the plates are raised "rubber"-type plates. Then you need a calculated distortion factor to make up for the raised plate face. Your pressman needs to take a pill.

Oh it's more than just the pressman. We have a new crop of people in management and "sort of" management with zero printing experience. It makes the day quite challenging.

Anyway at least you guys are on the same page.

We do web growth compensation on all of our web press plates if that is what you mean.

Offset sheetfed. Just had a random job print to long and everyone is like we need distortion!! I I'm all you need to fix the issue!

I think pressman are slowly losing the ability to troubleshoot.

Pressroom / Ink Rotation?

We are a sheetfed folding carton plant, we have an ink tech in and is question our rotation. What is everyone using?

We are running CMYK but he is saying 95% of plants run KCMY.

Thanks

General Prepress / Prepress/Sheetfed for Dummies
January 04, 2019, 09:50:14 AM
We have a new person working at a big customer who has no printing experience  and I am looking for some resources to send to her. I used to have a great site that went over screening, imposition, basic color theory etc.. but now I can't find the page.

Anyone have a site like this in mind?

Thanks
