On a Mac running 10.6.8 we have been using Indesign CS6  to place CMYK technical drawing pdfs. ( these drawings have lines made of various colors)  we would then export to pdf & under output/ color we would set COLOR CONVERSION to Convert To Destination and under DESTINATION set to Black and White. This would make all lines solid Black. Since updating our OSX to 10.7.5 Black and White is no longer an option under DESTINATION.
Does anyone know of a way to get the Black & White option back or an easy work around.
Could this be a bug in 10.7.5?
Could someone at a higher OSX see if Black and White returned?
We have tried using CC & CC 2014 but still no Black and White.
I have attached a screen capture

What if you had an Acrobat PDF preflight or a PitStop Pro action list that would convert all colour vectors/text to solid black (it would not work with raster images or gradients)?

Ear

.... convert to destination aside, I see you have compatibility at PDFv1.4 Acro5.

v1.4 was the earliest PDF version to support transparency. I would change that to PDF v1.7, at least.

In CC 2014 I have the option for these that are B & W profiles.

That is because I grabbed the "High Quality Print" preset that he had in his screen shot and Adobe STILL has it set to 1.4.

But I agree it would be best to change that to a later standard.

Joe, I believe that those are all *grayscale* profiles, not *black and white* profiles (yes, there is a difference)!

P.S. I believe that this is a Mac OS thing, unless using an older OS or a Windows OS you are probably shit out of luck in returning to your previous workflow (unless somebody has an ICC profile that can make gray tones black only).

The profiles Joe is showing are Grayscale. I have tried all the dot gain settings  but colors still come out as grayscale not solid Black.

It is definitely a OS thing because it was working the day before I updated to 10.7.5.

Joe

Yeah I know they are "grayscale". I missed the part where you said "This would make all lines solid Black". So I assume there are no other photographic elements that need to be maintained as a tint of black? In other words you want everything solid black?

If you have Acrobat Pro and or PitStop, I would use that as the new workflow to run a preflight to edit the PDF files to solid black (assuming that there are no raster images or gradients and that you only need to force all vectors and text to solid black).

I saw the High Quality thing but figured I would pick on you about one thing at a time.

Still... Press Quality goes for Acro5 compatibility too. Adobe needs to get their prepress preset shit together. Hear that Adobe? Press Quality is NOT really press quality!

Adobe doesn't give 2 shits about print anymore.

Didn't you guys get the memo? Print is dead.

Well thank you for thinking of me.
