Anyone else here purchased a used Mac for production from somewhere other than Apple? (eBay, craigslist, whatever)
Yeah, we bought a few from http://www.powermax.com    Decent prices, great service.

I ended up getting a Sony - DSC-H70.  Picked it up on Friday.

Shot a bunch all weekend.  Shot some snow (to replicate the beaches I'll be on in a little over 5 days), people, the dog, indoors, night shots.

I'll report that my test shots looked good.  Decent exposure, not a lot of red-eye, good flash.  I like it.

I'm holding off on the Wi-Fi card, though.  Read some reports of pictures being deleted.  I'm way too paranoid about that happening.

I ended up with a Sony DSC-H70.  Got it for $170.00.

I have a 30 day return window if I don't like it.

I'm gonna shoot a bunch this weekend, see how they turn out.  If they turn out crappy, I'll try another.

Leaving on vaca. a week from today, so I gotta get this settled.

Quote from: DCurry on February 08, 2012, 03:52:32 PMWhy no AA or AAA batteries? I've always preferred cameras that use them as opposed to a proprietary rechargeable battery because in a pinch I can always buy extra AAs, but can't always find a place or have the time to recharge a proprietary one.
Seems I can get a smaller camera without the AA or AAA.

I'm looking to replace my digital camera.  While packing for Cozumel (9 days, 19 hours til Takeoff, but who's counting?) I discovered my old one crapped out on me.  Turns on, lens pops out, but the back display is dead.

Any recommendations on cameras under $200.00?  Looking for something that takes good pictures, durable.  Prefer to NOT use AA or AAA batteries.  Not looking for a $49.99 "Throw-away".

Thanks in advance,

Quote from: Farabomb on May 12, 2011, 02:09:31 PMI have a texture that I can use I just wanted to see if it was possible to do it all vector (just like the post below mine  ). I know it's a lot eaiser to just drop in an image but I like doing things the hard way because prepress. I will post it when I'm done playing (and people are done "helping" design it).

Why is a wake called a wake? Are people expecting them to wake up? If that ever happens at any wake I'm at I am running for my zombie survival kit.
Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would Sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead andprepare them for burial. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up. Hence the custom of holding a wake.

Found this on the Interweb... it's gotta be true.

He's a link to another type of barcode we've been printing the last few months.  Only one customer, but it's a big company, and the sell a LOT to Walmart.

Just sorting thru some old E-Mail...Bar Code Producer 6.5 does make QR codes.

Figures... we just bought 6.2 about 4 months ago.

The upgrade is $60.00.

We use ArtPro to generate the Data Matrix codes.  We don't have a scanner to verify, however.  After the job is printed, we send them out for verification.  Kind of like locking the barn after the horse gets away.  We've never had one that did not scan or scanned bad.

The QR bar codes are so far only being used by 1 customer.  They are supplied on the art - we do not build.  The only verification we do is have someone scan it with their phone - if it goes to the proper web site, we call it good.

We have Bar Code Producer, and it does not build either.

Quote from: gnubler on April 22, 2011, 07:05:10 PMIs anyone considering leaving the trade due to the shift in technology? I know several of us are worried about job loss due to the same shift and the coming death of printing as more things are moved to the internet.
Unless something bad happens, I'm in it for the long haul.  I've done nothing but printing since High School.

I'm in packaging, so we've never slowed down a whole lot the last few years. As long as my company keeps going well and wants to keep me, I'll hang on.

I dabbled in web pages a few years ago - didn't really care for it.  I'm kicking around taking some classes in either web design or networking, since work will probably pay for it.  It's hard to get back in the mindset of night school, though.  I'm sure if the bottom falls out I'll be kicking myself in the ass for not doing it now.

What's helping my complacency is the fact my wife's company is doing EXTREMELY well, and she's doing very well financially & "corporate ladder"-wise.

I bought some Logitech speakers about 5 years ago for around $50.00.

They do need 110v power.

They have a Sub Woofer (about 8" x 10" x 6" high), and the desktop speakers are about 3" x 3" x 3".

They sound friggin' awesome.

Quote from: Joe on March 11, 2011, 04:09:26 PMLeave that 192.168.1.1 in the DNS server field. I can guarantee it won't work without it but there must be something else. Click on the WPS tab in the wireless utility and post a screen shot of it.
Here you go.
