Is there such a thing out there yet? As the resident crash test dummy I installed Big Sur on my Mac and I think I have everything working except the XMF client which doesn't give me any errors. It just won't launch.
do you have a license? if so call it in
I never installed client by myself

That is the software we use on our Javelin CTP so I guess we have a license. I've never used Fuji/XMF support so I have no idea where to start. Also I'm not a big fan of calling support no matter where on Earth it is located.
Fuji/XMF support is actually pretty awesome. I miss it, since we cancelled our Maintenance a while ago.
Check it out, I'll be curious to know too, as I hope to get new Macs in here before long and will need compatibility.

Oh their support is wonderful!
Well I am about to find out...
3...2...1
Answer: Since it is not an urgent problem they are going to call me back tomorrow.
So have not heard back from XMF support. This is why I hate all tech support. Awesome support? Wonderful support? Balderdash! Or maybe it is just me. :blind:
Why, when I called them last night did they ask me if I was calling from Walmart? The people that work in the plate room told me every time they call they also get asked if they are calling from Walmart. Weird.
I have found out from my friend Google there is a version of the XMF client for Big Sur. Why does XMF not have a website where you can download software? I have found their support website where they have downloads. Below is the extent of their downloads.
sorry Joe, I hope you get a good tech
there are a couple that really are very good
So they did just call me. There is no XMF Client for Big Sur yet. Maybe by September but that is only a guess on their part. So Big Sur will be supported about the time Apple releases macOS Monterey. So they are staying a full version behind. Have they been taking lessons from Kodak?
Seems the google page I found about Big Sur support was for other Fuji software and not XMF.
We called them [Fuji] Yesterday, and the representative was getting a lil p*ssed defending theirselves by saying Apple surprised everyone out of the blue with a big number of problematic changes...
We didn't even want to rustle his jimmies :azn:
He also vaguely said something along the lines of "maybe by autumn"
So that's coming from European tech support, as well.
"Maybe by autumn" is also the official release Date for Monterey tho..
EDIT: oOh, Joe just pointed that out.
In what may be a worlds first Kodak beat them in supporting Big Sur in Prinergy. Still waiting on Preps to be fully compatible but that is supposed to happen in July.
Meh, I won't be getting new Macs with Big Sur any time soon anyway. Shoot, I just got the OK to add 16GB of RAM to our 4-year old machines to try & keep 'em running for the duration! ::)
We just got a beta version this morning and so far, it runs just fine on Big Sur!
Lucky you!
I ended up installing the XMF client into an unused Windows 2012 Server that I can Remote into from my Mac to use the client.
I also have to remote into that server to be able to print jobs back into Prinergy from Preps 9.0.1 because it crashes Preps on Big Sur.
The upgrade to Big Sur on my iMac has not gone smoothly. >:(
UPDATE: Lucky we're testing!
Couple of times, the mac where it's on froze up completely, having to force shut down with the power button.
So yeah... not exactly production ready.

Man, I'de love to know where you got it. I'm gonna send a request today to my rep. We're less than 2 weeks away from a new JPress hitting the floor, and my brand spanking new iMac won't run XMF.

Hello Lee!
Well, yeah, from the Fuji man I think.
However, you'll be quick to notice that the client still does not run very stable on big sur.. apparently they have a new public testing version coming real soon - but we haven't heard back. If you're lucky you might be eligible for that. But we haven't heard back for a few days ^^
Coming to think of it... Fuji man would be a nice superhero design
da ta da da! It's Fuji-man
what are his super powers?
Well for starters, lasers coming from his eyes can record plates as rapidly as 7 minutes/Plate!
I've got an email in to my Fuji rep wondering when the Big Sur release is going to happen since we're like a month out now from a new Mac OS (I'm pretty sure anyway, Apple seems to release a whole version every September). Only response I've gotten was that he'll look into it, that he knows who to talk to. That was I think about two weeks ago...
Part of the problem from what one of their Fly-Fuji tech dudes was telling me earlier this year was that when Apple made the switch to only allowing 64bit programs to be installed (Mojave I think?), was that the software engineer guys did a super sloppy job coding it to 64bit for the Mac client. That's bit them in the rear end for the Big Sur and M1 move.

Thanks for the heads up on the possible public test version! I did hit my Fuji rep up, but did not hear back yet. We've slowly been getting XMF up and running because they are having shipping issues. My Impo Proofer came in 3 separate shipments over 3 weeks, as well as the new Epson for which the final piece from X-rite just showed up. So the techs will be out to do the final prepress machines install next week. Will try to pry something out of them then.
If they have any new news I'll be sure to post it here.

Ohhhh really? We're in the beginning phase of planning to move into the inkjets also and I know the JPress is in the running. I think I'll start a few threads in the appropriate Forums, if you wouldn't mind weighing in that'd be great! (Or offline, in PM if you're not comfortable posting publicly.)
Got the upgrade on XMF to 6.12. Client now runs on Big Sur.
That'a great! Moenterey just around the corner!

I've got our last 2 days of training going on right now, so I will hit my trainer up for this new version this afternoon.
But if that fails, would you be able to throw a copy up on here? I'd be eternally grateful!
Hah, my trainer just said they will upgrade us next week!! Woohoo!!
I could get you a copy of the client but it won't do any good if the server is not updated as well. And that I do not have. XMF remotely installed the server version.
Yep, figured that out when the trainer got back in. But they're doing us next week so we'll be good to go.
And, of course, what pops up in my apple notifications this morning? The notice to download and install Monterey :shoots_self:

We actually got an email from Fuji just yesterday to not install Monterey as XMF will not run on it.
I've just installed Monterey on a Mac we are no longer using and can confirm that the XMF client bounces once in the dock and then just lies down and sulks (ie, it definitely doesn't work!). :death:
So, apparently we HAVE TO update our Macs to run the latest abomination iteration of InDesign, but that will invalidate our XMF Clients, assuming I even had a current maintenance agreement to do so - which I don't.
:shoots_self:
Yep gotta be on Catalina or above for the latest Creative Cloud. I have a bunch of iMacs running Mojave that has to be updated before I leave at the end of the year. Adobe could have made my life easier had they waited until the first of the year but nooooooooo...
:deadhorse:
sheesh I think your retirement is perfect timing
who knows what's going to happen to the rest of us!
Im running Mojave I think I will wait for you, I may have to bug you into your retirement tho!
I kept my notes from last time so I might be ok.
who am I kidding what will I do without you!!!

Got the same letter the same day :D
After the wait for a big sur compatible version, I knew not to. I have never jumped on the newest OS on or near release day anyway. Let designers be the guinea pigs lol.
But they updated us yesterday, so far so good...
Fuji ever get up to speed on this? I need to justify buying new Macs, but they'll have to be compatible with XMF.
Yes before I left we were able to run XMF Client on Big Sur. Of course they had to update the server before we could do that. They remoted in to update the server and then we installed the new client on the Macs.
Were you able to Run XMF Client 6.9 with Catalina or more importantly Big Sur or is there newer version?
I Kept my Mac running Mojave. I'm always nervous about the updates because XMF is always so far behind. My other Mac on is running Monterey, but I know XMF 6.9 will not work on it yet.
I need to update my Adobe Apps so I need to update my macOS but do not want to lose my XMF Client.
If anyone could answer my question that would be great.
Does XMF Client 6.9 Work on Big Sur or Catalina?
*If not... What Client Version are you running?*
Thank You
Version: 6.12.0.1 is what they installed for us to be able to run it on Big Sur. No idea about Catalina as we skipped that version.
I have an unused iMac (Roughly 2018)ere so I updated to Monterey & the XMF installer we have (6.6.23) has the "No entry" symbol so it won't even install.
Got a call out to our sales dude to see what the update will cost and the OS specs too.
let me know what the update costs please PM me if you need to!!

They didn't have the software for Big Sur available until after Monterey was released so you might be waiting for awhile.
Here in the UK, we've just been upgraded to XMF v6.13.0.1 which now works with Monterey with no immediately apparent issues so far.
I now just need to persuade the higher-ups that I REALLY need a Mac Studio to be able to perform my day to day duties at optimum efficiency! ;D

I've got a visit from our new Fuji Rep this Tuesday, so I'm going to find out wtf is up, if they even know. Will report back.

Lucky you, we just got an extra 16gb of ram (total now 32gb) for our late 2012 iMacs to try and get another 9 yrs out of them :rage: :rage: :rage:
