Although it is a 5K monitor you aren't truly look at 5K unless you change the resolution to 5120 x 2880 instead of the default resolution of 2560 x 1440.

Ok, so the true 5K is giving me 1pt. type now!

What's the use of 5K then? Wayyy too small!!

Yes full 5K is unusable but it benefits from more pixels for your eyes to look at. The default resolution is half of the 5K resolution which renders at twice the quality of a non-retina display. It is just rendered at 2x quality (4 actual pixels for every 1 UI pixel) to be much more crisp.
