Groups in Mac mail

Does anyone use "groups" in Mac Mail?
It seems when you make a group and use it in an email all the recipients end up in the "to" column. It was my understanding you can only have one "to" and the rest needed to be under "cc" or "bcc". Just wondering if the group email will actually reach any recipients.

yeah, I have several groups I've made in Address Book.
They (all the people in the group) do all go into the "to"  column in Mac mail.

and it actually works.
