if you need to get rid of the tabs, do a find and replace. find ^t and replace with a blank field. Not sure that'll fix your problem though lol

Get a PDF from their original Word doc and use Pitstop to get it press-ready. 
Working in Prepress is very difficult. God chose only the best to do this job.

To align the text in Indesign you can follow the steps given by Adobe here https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/aligning-text.html Hope it works for you.
