Title: free imposition for Indesign
Post by: wonderings on January 28, 2016, 08:12:46 AM
Looks like croptima has gone out of business or shut down. I have been using Croptima since CS6, it was a great simple imposition tool for standard stuff. Well laid out, had a visual element so you could see how your imposing was going to look. There website is now simply one page, with a download for their version for Indesign CS5, CS6 and CC2015.

If anyone is looking for a good imposition program, this is one has served me well for years. I will keep on using it till the next release of Indesign comes out. This app was made for specific versions of Indesign, so you cannot just use them with any new updates i.e. CC2016.

And install the preps 6 demo again.

I am looking at Imposition Studio to replace Croptima when the next major release of Indesign comes out. I am assuming Preps has a very high price tag as they don't have an option to purchase from the website, only have sales contact you. Imposition Studio looks pretty powerful for what you are paying. I am playing with the demo, making myself familiar with it before jumping on board.

:cane: Get off my lawn :cane:

If it's basically the same I will try preps 7, if I can find it. I know we have to upgrade but as normal, it's while kicking and screaming. A new platesetter is first on the list though.

New and improved over 6.

Kodak's "new and improved" isn't a welcoming thought.

well, it's new...   the "improved" part is debatable.

6 had some nasty bugs. Some of which they've actually fixed though they may have added some new ones I haven't ran into yet.

Dang, I used Croptima since CS5. Nice impo program for $60.00

The only issue i had with it was that you could not create gutters in imperial ruler fractions (.25" for 1/4")
as their programmers decided that a .02 step was the way to go. When I asked if a fix was comin, their response was, "it's only a tenth of an inch, how big a deal can it be?" That was a huge warning to me, but i kept hoping since everything else works really slick.
I had been putting off updating since Adobe updates with the seasons now, i thought i could wait another cycle before updating.
RIP Croptima.

Why are all of the "installers" .air files?
Title: Re: free imposition for Indesign
Post by: David on January 28, 2016, 05:58:44 PM
weird, it's all about the cloud.

QuoteA file with the AIR file extension is an Adobe AIR Installer Package file. The Adobe AIR runtime enables developers to package the same code into native applications and games for Windows and Mac OS desktops as well as iOS and Android devices, reaching over a billion desktop systems and mobile app stores for over 500 million devices.

Going to try out Croptima when I'm back at work in the middle of February. Since we're still on CS6, it should work. Thanks for sharing!

It is a great program, especially for things like business cards and booklets. I used it for pretty much everything, from business card imposing to 32 page magazines.

I also checked out the demo of this, i thinkI did a while back as well, somewhat familiar, kinda clunky compared to Croptima.
What do you think? I was a little unsure about step and repeat jobs, and the color bars seems limited for the one color work we do, i like to give the pressmen a take off bar for ink balance, I didn't see a way to do that

I have Preps 5, with dongle. I no longer use it. Wonder if I can sell it... I have the 5.3 updater package too.

.... actually, 2 copies of Preps 5, with 5.3 update package and separate USB dongle/license(s). In box, with manuals, OG packaging. :afro:

Best offer takes 'em off the lot. Come on, who wants to prep some shit!?!

WOW! If I were to buy that from you I would then have 4 of them that we don't use. SCORE!!!

Maybe I can corner the market in them!

I've listed them before. Never got any inquiries. You can't run 5.3 unless you are on Snow Leopard or older. I think Farabomb is the last person on the planet running that and he already has Preps! :rotf:

Funny guys, real funny. I'm just looking for the big payoff when NASA needs spare parts. They have to scour Ebay for old 386DX's and such and I just happen to have some in my box 'O junk at home.

Ohhhh, is that the cool looking tower with the yellow light on it? I had one of those from a previous shop, was going to guy it & make it a gaming PC case but it was too small inside for much of anything mainstream.

Post by: Farabomb on February 05, 2016, 12:51:29 PM
You're like me.  :D  Look at neat cases and see if you can cram a PC into it. I used to cruise around businesses on garbage day looking for discarded servers and such. It was amazing how much working hardware (and data from dummies that don't wipe the disks) that people just threw out. When the Mac pro here shits the bed I'm taking the case no matter what the boss says.

I will say the last case I bought was the Lian-li that I lusted after for years. While really nice and you can fit gobs of drives in it the cooling was lacking even with high speed fans everywhere. Now I just run it with the side panel off and it's happy.

I went small on my latest (and likely, last) build - Corsair 250D (http://www.corsair.com/en-us/obsidian-series-250d-mini-itx-pc-case). I'm sure there's even smaller but it's been pretty decent so far, and if I get ambitious I can even get a closed loop liquid cooling block in the h100i too.
