Hey ya'll,

You can download an application named: "QR Journal" which will use the isight camera to read QR codes that are done in Indesign when printed. Either a 1up code or a variable from merge.

Works ok, it takes you to the web address you specify.

Not sure if this is old news or what but we have had to test qr codes for accuracy a couple of times and this is going to help.

I have one on my phone to read those, never really needed to do it on my Mac.
Usually out in the press room or wherever and need to do a quick barcode scan, just whip out the phone, launch the app, do a read.

Used to do a butt load of QR codes, it was all the rage. Not so much now-a-days.

I use QR Droid on my phone to scan QR's.

Only if the customer is nice and I feel like it. We've told a customer to go screw when they insisted we reprint for free a piece they supplied but didn't check.

Yeah, figured it was old news but we're getting a laser-after printing job which will need variable qr's. Nobody here who owns an phone wants to download the reader.

I scanned it.... some Social Identity builder BS... :sleepy:

I'm using RedLaser app on iPhone to scan the QR, BTW.

what about those people scanning bar codes at the grocery stores these days with their phones to get prices?

What are they doing, linking into the cost database of the store or something?

David

kinda what RedLaser is, it is owned by ebay. You load in your info, scan a code, it tells you where you can get it.

Then you can put your tinfoil hat back on and go about your bidness, knowing that someone is now tracking your every move...

here is linkage:

The Walmart app can scan upc codes and tell you the price. It is pretty handy because a lot of items aren't marked, most of the scanners they have around the store don't work, and their employees don't give a shit because they can't get enough hours or decent wages to make a living.

RedLaser. I just use it for testing QR codes but the wife unit uses it to work the retail system and shame zit-faced clerks. It's a pretty robust little app.

I've downloaded QR Droid as well and for me it works fine.
Working in Prepress is very difficult. God chose only the best to do this job.

wonderings

I always test QR codes and even websites before going to print, even if it is copied and pasted from something the client sent in. 99/100 it is correct, but that one time you catch it and inform the client, they are extremely grateful and you have provided a service they are very happy with.
