Quote from: DigitalCrapShoveler on May 13, 2010, 01:17:58 PMIs that why you attend each and every show Youston? Each concert showcases one song? Seriously, I have never heard a Phish song that I know of in my life. A typical song is what? 10, 15 minutes?

Most weigh in between 3 - 7 minutes. There are some that they stretch out. I've only been to 40 shows, FFS! Ooops, 41. I think the longest they've stretched a song out is just under an hour, but that included segues into and out of other songs. I think the longest song they've played at a show that *I* attended was about 30 minutes. It was a pretty blurry 30 minutes, though.

I would like you to tell me an example of a song that best represents Phish, by Phish. I will listen to it.

Easy. "You Enjoy Myself" is the epitome of a Phish song. It's got a great composed, almost classical movement at the beginning, a tension-ratcheting pseudo-climax in the middle that gives way to pure, glorious funk. And a vocal jam at the end (if you listen to a live version, and why wouldn't you?). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_Enjoy_Myself

Of the shows I've seen (or am otherwise personally connected to), I'd recommend 10/23/94 (wife's first show), 12/18/99 (Hampton, VA), 12/31/99 (Big Cypress) or 8/3/03 (Limestone, ME). I'd have to really dig around at home to come up with the ultimate YEM, although some of the ones from late summer/fall of 1997 are pretty crazy.

HOWEVER ... downloading one track from a show and listening to can be like dropping in on Lost or 24 in the middle of a season without having ever seen the show. You really need to listen to a set -- 9/17/00 or 11/23/97 (set 2 for both) are the two most absolutely mind-blowing single sets of Phish I've seen (aside from the 7-1/2 hour marathon at Big Cypress).

And you can download any known recording of a Phish show in mp3 format from here:

What's your point?

No point,  just an observation.

Well done. And I thought I hid it so well. Ever thought about becoming a detective?
