Anyone know if there's a way to have any effects used on an object in Indy to scale down with the object without having to change it manually? Somehow I'd like to connect them. I created a logo in AI and want to keep it a vector file. Flattening it is out of the question. The desired effect I wanted I did in Indy but scaling the logo keeps my effects the same measurements and I'd like them to scale down with the logo. There's probably not a way to do it and I can't get the kind of bevel I want in AI. Well.......not simply. I guess I can use the mesh tool or mess around with paths or Smart objects and do my bevel in PS but I'd like to see if this is possible........because I'm lazy.
It's not scaling with the object? You mean the layer effects like drop shadow, bevel and emboss, etc...?
Yes those effects. They don't scale with the object.
It's in General Prefs, "Apply to Content". Sorry, super busy today... :hello:
Sweet!!!!!! Thanks a f#$%in million.    I've been meaning to ask this for a long time. It comes up constantly. Too busy.
No. That doesn't work. :banghead: I have that selected. But let me fish around in the prefs..........
I just tried it on some text and the effects scale with the object for me.
They have never scaled with the object for me. WTF?
It even shows the same dimensions in the settings box. Joe, if you put a .125" bevel on an object, duplicate it and scale it down 50%, your bevel becomes .0625"? That's just an example there are all those other settings that need to be honored as well. I don't think it's possible.
curious are you using Object->Transform? or scaling with the scale tool?

AHHHH...I see what you mean now. I thought you meant the effect no longer fit the object. It still fits the object but the actual size of the effect does not change. OK...it does that to me too.
t-pat, I tried both Object->Transform and the scaling tool and the effect size does not change either way.
It's the other Pref... "Adjust Scaling Percentage." Sorry.

Both.
Let me try that DCS.
YES! Win! Thank you Dark Overlord of Prepress!
Really? I can't get it to work.
Hahahaha! I never would have thought that would have been the fix.
I had the same problem. Glad it worked.
does this fix the rotation not rotating global light bug feature? sorry sort of half following this cuz it is something I run into enough but I'm ass deep in yet another vdp job.

Later, I'm up to my neck in shit to do. Yes, there is a way.
It does still show the same measurements in the settings btw. I didn't think it would. It doesn't matter It works! Not sure about the Global Light feature. Never used it.

I can see the scaling effect being made but the distance is still showing .125 in the effects panel.
Here is a couple of good articles on the subject.

Having that pref checked and using global light, if I rotate an object the global light is honored. Does that answer the question?
edit: Actually, either way it honors global light.

Very nice! I couldn't find anything when I was searching. DCS is my google.

I wish it would not honor global light, sometimes dezingers don't back things up correctly and I need to rotate a spread 180 degrees. Our SOP is to do it in the input PDF and make a note in the input folder for the next guy to see that he needs to do that. If there are no effects I'll usually do it in indy.
I see. I would just export those pages out as PDFs or EPS and place them again in the document and then rotate.

that doesn't gain us anything really over simply rotating the exported page in the pdf (in acrobat) and leaving it. If there are edits to the rotated side it would add another step.
Oh. We used Preps and if something like that came up we created an imposition specifically for that job and would just rotate our pages there.

That works too, until someone else imposes the job and doesn't have or doesn't check the mockup, best in our case to do everything as close to the source as possible, things have a way of creeping along unnoticed if not stopped up front.
I go either way for some reason, some times I rotate in acrobat, others in preps. No reason why.

Hey hey! This is a work forum! :whip:
Going either way is work.

No only bi, but a contortionist. You must be popular.
:lmao:

I've heard that somewhere before. :embarrassed:
 End of discussion.

No kidding. I bet his "other job" doesn't involve cars at all.
Ever try and get into a fully caged racecar? You have to be an contortionist.
No. I would just turn sideways and slip in. I'm practically invisible from that angle.
There was nothing funnier than watching my 350+ teammate squeeze into the racecar. It almost involves Crisco. As the crew chief I was yelling at him becasue I couldn't get the damn belts buckled after the mandatory pit stop. Think the line was "F'n fart or something". That was a quite amusing day, glad we had in car cameras and audio.
