Quote from: DigitalCrapShoveler on August 05, 2010, 09:11:32 AMOne trick is to have a font manipulation app, like Fontographer. I had a TT that displayed the Japanese Yen symbol in place of quotation marks. I opened up the font in Fontographer, and replaced the offending character with the one I wanted and regenerated the font. Not all of us have this option, but it does work.

I agree. Being able to repair a font (used to be part of my job description) is a great asset.
I've done it more times than I can count.

I love Fontographer.

I miss Fontographer (did they ever upgrade to OS X?)

just wondering if anybody else has run into anything like this...

All the time. That is Adobe's "solution" to make high res vector art in a Photoshop PDF which led a lot of people to believe is was OK to set text in Photoshop. :death:

And use it as a layout program....

Seriously, though, you've had the "clipping textlines" as opposed to the clipping paths on the text?

Quote from: determined on August 05, 2010, 08:18:36 AMno not unless the font is embedded....(see above post)
I thought I had outline non-embedded text before... maybe I re-linked the font with one in my own collection. What you said makes sense, so I'll have to pay attention to what I'm doing next time, 'cuz I can't remember. Now I just feel stupid. I guess you can always request the font from the customer and re-embed or outline that way.

Never seen a vector PS file before. I've heard that since CS came out it was possible to have vectors in PS, but never seen one like that.

It may be possible to outline a font that's not embedded, providing it's displaying correctly and/or you have the font loaded on your machine (I think I may have done it before also)...but that was the problem with this file was that it wouldn't display correctly in the first place until the font was embedded.

Oh and get this....I just tried to do a new pdf out of photoshop with the font loaded and the "3" is now raster art and the other parts that use the font are now "clipping paths" (not clipping textlines, like before)

this is more like what I'm used to seeing in the pdfs I get....

no not unless the font is embedded....(see above post)

At least for me....got a pdf from customer using truetype fonts, not embedded in file. File is photoshop vector file(?) from windows....errored trying to rip, couldn't find the font (only wanted to see if it would rip the fonts properly, they would not display correctly). The funny thing is that the blue you see is image and the "font" is actually a clipping textline(?)....had to find the font, convert the font (can't embed a truetype font in acrobat) and embed the font for the damned thing to work. It says photoshop CS on the properties, but I have never seen anything like this before (photoshop vector? how'd they even do this?)

Quote from: david on July 22, 2010, 01:35:12 PMGo to your start menu/printers and faxes, and see if it's not in the list.

I did and it's not. And when I try to "add printer" in the printers and faxes spot, I can't browse anywhere (?)

Windows / Dumb pc question
July 22, 2010, 01:25:06 PM
Where would I get (find) a ppd (are they called that on the dark side?) for Adobe PDF Writer? I have Acrobat 8.0 installed...would that print driver have installed along with it? If so, where would I find it? I searched my computer last night and can't seem to find it anywhere....
