You're all jerks (who like pics of big roosters) ... but I'd be f&%$n lost without this place derailing my nothing posts right after they turn luke-warm!!

:ontopic:
As a basic thought - imagine if Bindery wasn't the end of the line for your print work.

The unwind is for Labels and Bags (think bags of pasta or frozen peas/corn) for customers who have production lines.
It's a nerdy area and nobody cares ... UNTIL they get 5000lb perishable food elements inhouse (ready for production) 20k bottles, 20k lids ... and find out the labels are facing the wrong way when the roll is mounted on the line.
Last month a "new printer" was tried for cartons ... and when they printed with board grain the wrong way, glue didn't hold as well, cartons "bowed" out of shape, didn't fit into corrugates ... suddenly people cared?!?!

My print skills have now got me into a weird role where I'm like the prepress guy for production elements.

So ... nobody here deals in printing to deliver rolls to the customer with a certain Unwind for their production line??

Bindery / Today - something NEW!
June 11, 2024, 12:08:38 PM
This year is 30 years in Printing for me ... I've now worked for the same US company for almost 10 years through a couple of different W2s ... and I'm at a point I've seen EVERYTHING production related that comes attached to the printing of packaging, until today.

We went from Unwind 1-8-9-16 and now we are using unwind 17-18-19 and 20!
Didn't even know 17-20 existed!

Not complaining, especially since it SOLVED a problem with minimal fuss on future projects, I'm just shocked, I feel like I won a prize or something!!  :o
(but I don't really have a prize)

That's all, carry on troops!  :soldiers:

Quote from: Tracy on June 06, 2024, 08:37:45 AMThe internet is getting scary, I was notified by Lifelock
that some of my data was on the Dark Web
what I found was it most likely was not anything too important
It looks like someone got my password from a not too important website.
maybe that's why I'm getting hammered with spam
I changed that password to the best of my knowledge
I think it was my drop box password
I now make the most complex ridiculous passwords
I do have to change some more.

So no more "p@55w0rd" use as my p@55w0rd?!?! Bugger!!!

I used to feel "awkward" sharing my LEGIT DVD's of Adobe CS2 with friends who wanted to try their hand at photography or "fix a family picture" using youtube guides ... not any more!

Probably one of the best $5 I ever spent at the Red White and Blue thrift store!

Quote from: Possum on May 26, 2024, 01:31:02 PMI always wanted a Maine Coon. I wouldn't need the help though. I get enough from my black domestic short hair. She wants to be on the desk while I'm working and there's no room. I put her on my lap but that's not good enough. Fussy!
My wife's friend rescued a litter of kittens and ended up keeping 3 of them ... annnnnnnd one of them turned out to be a Maine Coon. It looked just like the others until it suddenly grew a LOT, but it was always super tight with the other 2, which made for a super weird pictures.  ;)

Quote from: Tracy on May 17, 2024, 12:49:53 PMdid you mean IL or SD?
IL and SC are pretty far apart, are you in Wisconsin?
No way I could live in Wisconsin don't think I could handle the winter
They have locations in Wisconsin, Illinois and South Carolina, yeah locations are pretty spread out.

I'm in Pittsburgh as a "work from home" unicorn - they picked me up from the scrap-heap last year off a corporate merger, already knowing the customer's ordering systems, production facilities, print vendors meant I didn't need "training".
The hard part is learning to bounce between customers and the base 4 product materials they use, I'm pretty sure that's why they'd prefer to get Wisconsin employees ... if you have the experience, it's worth sending in an application for any future positions. My best CS operator is out of South Carolina, it took her a few months to level up, but she is among the best I've EVER worked with, in my ~30 years in Print.

Quote from: Foozball on November 04, 2021, 03:26:05 PMHey all,
I'm posting this for my team, who use these guys to setup all our packaging:
https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Oec-Graphics,-Inc/jobs

If you have experience (not a blood sausage), location works for you and you're looking - take a shot by applying to see what happens.

While I haven't worked for this specific group, I can vouch for the guy looking to hire the people and will say he is "one of us" when it comes to printers and all the insane-nerd crap that we know, that keeps us employed in this business.

I worked for 4 years at a competitor company in the same position ... it's nice to NOT stink of fixer, replenisher or MRC anymore ... though it's still in my blood!  :cane:
Hey all, positions are open again - if you're experienced in prepress, I suggest you consider the position in the link.

Ironically, I now DO WORK for this group ... they're a good company, all US based labor, and I'm hoping they can get some reliable operators soon - the M-F deal is pretty sweet!
I'm not sure abut the location restrictions, this states WI, but might be worth applying if you're in IL or SC. ;)

The best production operators ALL have the humour of a bunch of 12 year olds, it's par for the course ... either this site or out in the real world, I'm cool with either ... I know when I have a complex question you all deliver SOLUTIONS, then come the bad jokes! >:D

After that comes the thread-jacking, way-off-topic conversations and more bad jokes!

Quote from: DigiCorn on May 07, 2024, 10:41:14 AMI am doing an implicit bias training course online right now, and I DO realize the insensitivity behind MASTER pages, but that's what CWS calls them. They really need to change the name the name to SHELL or do like InDesign and change it to PARENT.
WELCOME to my hell!!!
Trying to explain big data concepts to people is killing me ... I do NOT know them but have seen so much this year, I pretty much have the Parent/Child/Master thing for printing sorted out, to where it hasn't failed after multiple challenges.
I may be wrong, but until someone can show me that ...

I hate people this week ... maybe next week I'll hate them more/less.
