General Prepress / HP DesignJet T930
March 09, 2017, 12:37:15 PM
Our company recently purchased an HP DesignJet T930 to use for double-sided proofing, the printer is fast, has good colour, but we've run into a snag with our "double-siding". The curl of the paper which is very hard to get uncurled ends up getting hit by the print head on it's way back through on the 3rd or 4th pass. There is no suction on this machine (a feature I had not thought of). We have managed some success by passing through "blank art" at the size we need and having the machine basically make sheets for us that we then leave out for quite a period of time to flatten. Then it works fine. That being said, it's time-consuming, anyone on here has this type of machine and possibly better success at double-siding with it?

We picked up an HP Designjet T930 which is a nice, fast 36" printer that allows for sheet feeding so that we can make a double-sided pring. However, the curl of the paper from the roll tends to make it get caught when feeding printing the second side and gets to the stacker. Anyone have any experience in getting a double-side to go through and drop to the basket instead of the stacker? Am I missing something? I've set it to basket in the printer settings but it seems to just ignore it.

I wish we could go that route as well. Although we'd still need to make blue-line mockups for some jobs that have multiple parts as we have press and bindery where I work.

So what do other prepress departments do for client proofs, or bluelines for the press? Single sided and then glue together?

That's what we do with the Epsons, but no idea with the Canon as it will duplex from the roll for us, never tried to re-feed a cut sheet.

So you're re-feeding epsons for double siding? What model?

I've seen these set up with 2 for double-sided, are you just using one and then hand flipping the paper?

Do you use yours for double-siding?

Hello all,
We have reached the point of requiring a new 36" plotter for client proofing. We have one that we use for colour plotters and one that we use for low-resolution content plotters. It's the content plotter that is needing to be replaced. The one we were using was an HP Designjet 1050 and we could print one side and refeed the cut sheet back through to print on the second side and then fold by hand the way the press would fold it to ensure our pagination is correct and then to send to the client. What I'm wondering is what other's are using? We also used to have an HP5500 with a double-sided attachment that would re-feed the paper and print the second side but that one is also shot. So I'm looking for recommendations on printers that would allow us to make a double-sided plotter.

RAMpage / Rampage Version 13 and Yosemite
April 23, 2015, 12:54:23 PM
Has anyone upgraded to a newer Mac and running OS Yosemite while still using RAMpage version 13? We're looking at upgrading to new computers as ours are 8 years old now and still running Snow Leopard.

CTP - CTF / Air Filtration unit
January 02, 2015, 12:07:36 PM
Hello,
We're running a Fujij CTP with a PAT 506id air filtration unit that has stopped working, being that this is Friday and the day after new years it's not possible to get someone today to fix it... my question is, does anyone know if it is damaging to the CTP to run say 8 plates without this filtration unit running?

Adobe InDesign / Re: Anyone using Adobe CC

We upgraded to CC last year but still maintain all previous versions on our systems to accommodate any files we are sent. This year with the CC 2014 we have to upgrade our OS from Snow Leopard to Lion in order to use it. We did this with one system so far and it buggered our Preps 5.3 as Lion no longer supports the PPC programs. Now we have to upgrade Preps... so the arduous climb out of the software dark ages begins...

I'm coming at this from a completely different direction. I spent the first 20 years of my working life in Forestry, but had a background in Art from school. When Forestry went belly up in my area I was able to get into an unemployment program that sent me back to school full time to learn Graphic Design, which helped me land this job as Graphic Designer/Prepress Technician which I've been doing now for 2 years and quite enjoy it.

Good luck to you in your future endeavours.

General Prepress / Re: Proofs

Standard policy for us is to have proofs out within 24hrs of receiving files. Files from clients are supposed to be received 72 hrs before press time... although there are exceptions. On average, because there are 3 of us in my department we can have proofs out before end of day of receiving files. As I said though, there are exceptions.

Quote from: Joe on August 06, 2014, 06:04:40 PMLucky me! Photoshop CC2014 crashes at launch every time starting today. Deleting prefs or rebooting did not help. I suppose I will have to re-install the whole damn CC2014 to get it working again. You suck Adobe!

I had a similar issue when we first went to the Adobe CC with Illustrator. It turned out to be a font issue... Verdana I believe or Tahoma that needed to be on your system or in Font Fusion if you use that. After I made it permanent in Font Fusion my Adobe CC stopped crashing on launch up.
