Updated my Affinity Publisher to 1.8 and been trying out the new import InDesign IDML files into AP.
It actually does a good job but you still have to do some cleaning up which is expected.

Now that i have finally replaced my dead 07 imac at home with a 2017 model, Im definitely looking at getting the affinity suite... great to hear they have got an indesign import now!

Just in case anyone needs to know.
You can open pdfs with Affinity Publisher and it turns them into documents for editing.
So if you have a pdf of the file, you can use that for converting to a editable AP document. Just need to reconnect the text boxes etc

I have been testing Affinity Publisher and I have ran across an issue that is a deal breaker for a page layout application.
If you place a PDF into a document you have to have every font in the PDF installed on your system as it will not use embedded fonts in the PDF and substitutes any font in the PDF that you do not have the font loaded on your system.
They have no time frame on which this might be added to the Affinity apps.
In my case...GAME OVER!
They've got a few things they have to address. This from the 1.7 version. Not sure if they improved anything in 1.8?

I'm on version 1.8.3 and any PDF you place will reflow text if you do not have the fonts installed on your system.
Also if you use their built in export option which has subset fonts checked as a default the PDF you create will not get through Prinergy processing as every PDF will fail in the normalizer section of the refine process. Unchecking subset fonts will allow it to get through Prinergy although it makes for larger PDF's. I just can't believe they would release this product where it won't use embedded fonts in a PDF. Very disappointing.

On the Affinity forums one recommendation was to open in Apple Preview and save as a tiff. And several others to convert all text to outlines although no one mentioned Pitstop but it would be my method of choice if I was going to go down that road. And while both methods would work I'd rather pee on an electric fence.

There's also a nasty bug with black not overprinting in certain situations.
My experience with it is that it's a program with lot's of potential, but at the moment it's only usable for digital printing.
