Macintosh / Re: OSX Monterey and AFP to Windows server

When I change my share to SMB and open the newest Adobe Bridge, and try to point to that server, I immediately get the spinning wheel of death. I need to mention that we have a 4 TB server with thousands of files.

Macintosh / OSX Monterey and AFP to Windows server
November 03, 2022, 05:54:34 AM
I have multiple Macs running Monterey. We mount a Win job server to these Macs using AFP instead of SMB.
We connect using AFP because of the advantages of file indexing.

For example: using Adobe Bridge to view graphics on a mounted server is impossible if connected using SMB.
When using AFP, Bridge has no problem.

We also have the new version of ExtremeZIP (or whatever it is called now) installed on the Win Server.

Here is my problem. The Macs seem to take ownership of certain files. Some files wont delete. Some files wont copy or move. We have Pitstop and Switch hotfolders on this Win server that will not move files where they should move because they believe that the file is still open.

The only way i can get these file to move on is to unmount the server from the Mac.
Anyone experiencing this kind of problem? Could Adobe be causing the issue?
I know that Adobe is saving a lot of information in the background. I turned off Creative Cloud but that doesn't help.

Yes, I can change it, but its not productive if you have 50 pdfs to do. Maybe I can find a way for pitstop to delete the ".pdf" from the code i placed.

The document name is the original Indesign file name which I do not have.

I want to automate (with a hot folder, possibly Pitstop server) the addition of the file name inside the trim of a pdf.

We use the file name as a code for the printed piece. I can currently do this with Pitstop, but the actions are limited.
The file names is being placed where I want it, but it includes ".pdf" and I don't see away around this.

Ive tried taking the extension off the pdf first, but I'm afraid that will cause other problems.

We cut blankets on our zund.
We send an Illustrator (.ai file) to the zund. We distort (scale) the vector art in Illustrator before sending.

Really easy.

But how can I figure out the distortion and scaling??

I want to set up pdf/vector files to cut blankets on my ZUND cutter. From what I can see, there is distortion caused by the cylinder. Assuming that some of you are machine cutting your blankets, how on earth do you do this?

We only see the delay when we try to use any type of Process template.
Shortcuts and/or right clicking to access process plans is an 8 second delay.

We can open pdfs through workshop quickly.

Possible workaround.

Kodak asked me to install TeamViewer which I did and, guess what, problem solved.
Prinergy Workshop 8.2 no longer had a delay in opening the Process windows.
When we close TV, the problem comes back.

My operator is now using workshop with TV open. It's working so far.
TeamViewer might have some network prefs that are allowing this to happen.

She has also commented that our Metrix is opening windows much faster.

Comments?

Correct, Prinergy 8.2 VPS definitely doesn't run under Catalina.

Im almost certain that Kodak will tell me that they do not support Prinergy 8.2 on Mojave and will not help me.
But I will give it a try.

Also, I have Catalina installed on my MacBook Pro and it works fine with Prinergy 8.2.

Kodak Systems / Prinergy 8.2 OSX Mojave

Some of this was covered in June but is not exactly the problem we are experiencing.

We had to purchase a new iMac and it came with Mojave.
I copied the Prinergy 8.2 app and files from a High Sierra Mac, because the workshop installer doesn't work on Mojave.

Everything works, but when you select anything in Workshop and click on a shortcut there is several second wiat until the next window appears. I have added the Prinergy IP to the host file (Go to), installed Java, mounted the Prinergy volume, and used the IP in the Workshop login. Nothing helps.
