Damn! I only had experience bluelining architectural floorplans and 4+ years with AutoCAD on-the-job experience with an electrical contractor installing Fire Protection systems, otherwise I ticked every box in spades. They only offered me $.75 a day.
"There's been a lot of research recently on how hard it is to dislodge an impression once it's been implanted in someone's mind. (This is why political attack ads don't have to be true to be effective. The other side can point out their inaccuracies, but the voter's mind privileges the memory of the original accusation, which was juicier than any counterargument ever could be.)"

The big ad agency I used to work for (who packaged out most of the staff when the prospect of a global shut down spooked all our clients into cutting advertising) has just posted on a facebook group that they are looking for 5 JR. Creatives... No details.

Seems a lot of Millennials with no self esteem are jumping on these and begging to be considered. Obviously the agency wants young desperates who won't know how cheap and ungrateful the ad world is...

In my experience everybody likes young desperates that can be had for cheap over experienced people who actually know how to do the job.

You're so right about the ad biz. Any burp in the economy means ad revenue drops. Around 2004 I had a high schooler follow me around for the day at a newspaper.  I advised him if he liked designing to learn packaging. I figured that was the one part of printing that would have staying power. Even back then the ad revenue was shrinking.

I was a little hesitant on that one until I read "Business group runs 24 hours a day, and therefore, flex hours including weekend work may be required with little to no notice. May experience periods of high-level stress as a result of multiple demands and conflicting priorities".

But now sign me up for that pony show. Also :wtf: are bespoke presentations?

The original job Title is "Creative Design Specialist"...

Hardly a well used industry term, that way they don't adhere to industrial salary expectations.

born2print

Some of these descriptions are SOOOO specific, I have to wonder if they are describing the person that rage-quit or that they shouldn't have let go?
Those days are gone forever
I should just let them go but...

DigiCorn

I've been told multiple times at multiple places that I'm a unicorn because I did clean design work, knew prepress, ran and repaired machines, knew trapping, knew enough networking to keep things connected and talking, and knew the signage manufacturing and installation side of things. Three of the last four jobs I've worked, they laid off/fired two people in my department a few weeks after I started and didn't replace them... I take that to mean one of two things; I did the work of two/three people and their services were no longer required, or, the workload dramatically decreased and there wasn't enough for them to remain employed (I can't back this up as I don't have a frame of reference before I arrived).

Of course, this is printing, and there's always the rationale that the owner was psycho and fired people on a whim.

Right now, even if I could go back, I don't know that I would. After 33 years in and around this industry, maybe it's time for something new. Network security sounds solid; seems like there's been some major issues in that arena lately.

[edit] I just wanted to add that I am a fucking slacker; on my best days, I phone it in.

I've had the opposite experience on a couple of jobs. They hired two people after I left.
