David

any you guys ever printed or proofed on a piece of polarized film?

got a request to do one where if you look at the piece, you see one image, when you put on the polarized sunglasses, a hidden image appears.

they must stay up late thinkin' of this stuff.

ps. posted this at PP... see who responds first.

Sounds awesome, kinda like linticular, but for NINJAS! Let us know how how it turns out will ya?
(just noticed the bottom of post, LOL!)
ps We did print a lot on plastic before, but not polarized, prolly similar in pressroom though.

I should just let them go but...

thanks for the reply.
yeah, the hard part is figuring out how to make the image disappear and re-appear.
all they gave me was a printed sample (silkscreened, no less).
It has a black halftone on the face and a solid silver on the back, with who knows what between the silver and the plastic to make it work.

I'm guessing Dave, but print one side then the other and finally silver on the back. Do you think the substrate would have some kind of UV properties or it is just some kind of polarising sheet with the property 'buit in'?
one sick prepress mofo

yeah, it's something like that...
but, figure out what makes the image disappear...
there's something done to the back side image, I know it's like an 85 line screen, so no geometric screening that would run perpendicular to the polarized film...
and yes, it is on a sheet of polarized film (coated one side with the stuff)

my head is starting to hurt...

qoute from blublocker site

BluBlocker® high-resolution polarized sunglasses contain Malenium® Polycarbonate. This is a powerful resin that makes our lenses so strong you can hit them with a hammer and they won't shatter.

do people often get hit in the face with a hammer

In case you want to know:

QuoteThe Brewster angle is related to the index of refraction n of the material by
tan B =
n(material)

n(air)
= n(material)
(1)
For glass, n = 1.5 and  B = 56.3° and for water, n = 1.33 and  B = 53°.

now my eyes hurt as well...
