it's deffo a transparency issue (or a transparency instance as the fancy schmancy adobe peoples like to call it). its flattening the file to spool/print -  you could put the spot colour in the psd file and psd that, then drop that in indesign bypassing illy for that particular image

also you might try a good old fashioned clipping path - thats worked for me before with HQ systems that struggled with transparency in the early days

failing that - as a bodge workaround, convert the spot colour to the bridge breakdown so essentially the whole job temporarily becomes process (avoiding the spot colour/transparency issue) - and if you're careful you should match the bridge breakdown on press

neh - it was a lucky guess

of course if you can outline any pdf with this shit it you can get that into illustrator and if you're really lucky there might be a trap layer and you can just delete the wrong bit

if the job was trapped using esko power trapper it may be a pulled back colour - this might need correcting in "colour pairs" at trap stage

we get similar with say 100m 100y mix - powertrapper (aka by me as powercrapper) in it's wisdom pulls back the yellow to leave a magenta edge - we have to select that in colour pairs and reverse the trap

maybe it's something similar, but you wont be able to do that because its done at trap stage

i also see some crazy shyt happen when a trapped file comes out of artpro and back into illy

the two reasons for dcs files were initially a pre-seperated file to help old rips process quicker, and spot colours from photoshop.

is there a spot colour in the dcs file? if NOT there's no reason for it to be a dcs file - somehow you need to open it and investigate - or turn seperation off etc and see what colours are in the job.

if theres spots and you need them you need to either pdf the file and relink a pdf or psd it if possible (preferred method) and relink

Esko / Re: PackEdge/Automation Engine and Mavericks
November 12, 2013, 03:35:04 PM
matt - did i ask? yes - several times

i was told to install it - i really didnt want to but my line manager told me to

was on phone with esko tech today actuallly as we got pack edge et al fully working with pilot, automation engine and plato - i said i was dissapointed that the REPRO dept didnt know about mavericks- he admitted that maybe they were not as thorough notifiying folks but there was info on their web site. we dont spend every second of the working day on their site (soon be out of a job) but was amazed my manager didnt know not to upgrade.

i did what i was told but know much much better not to trust people...... :embarrassed:

oh all the "desighners" have installed it - and since the studio manager is also the head desighner......

i really didnt want to - i asked three or four times if they were sure

theres a reason mavericks is free (you always get what you pay for) - anyone installing it is a guinea pig - simples

Esko / PackEdge/Automation Engine and Mavericks
November 10, 2013, 06:51:29 AM
well we never got the memo that esko wont be supporting mavericks until january

so here's a warning to anyone who uses the pack edge products

do not - lemme do that again - DO NOT install mavericks (unless you have a time machine back up because you will need it!!!)

I was told to install mavericks last week. big big BIG mistake.

the studio "manager" (yeahhh right) didnt tell repro or forward us the email telling us not to go to mavericks. my direct line manager told me it was fine and to do it - so sceptically i did

i wish i didnt. i really really wish i didnt  :banghead:

no time machine back up (they dont use it which is nuts)

plug ins wouldn't load and then the living hell began

had to wipe hard drive and clean install snow leopard, and do the long upgrades back to mountain lion, install Adobe CC and install loads of other stuff

and to cap it all off esko struggled on another machine to re-install the plug ins via licence manager etc - and left ME to do my own

oh - and a co worked who's been there a while just moaned and whined so i ended up doing his workstaton too
