Title: Foiling
Post by: Tracy on April 18, 2016, 09:49:51 AM
I have a complex job on that Pearl Paper, Diecuts, Foils.
The diecut is 2 pianos when it's folded down, and the foiling
is in between the curvy parts of the 2 pianos.

I did not put any marks where the foiling goes, and it's not like they make the foil with marks
they just make a small die, and there is no way
you can just go by the proof, it's tight.

soo, I have to go to the foilers today, and check it
I made a jig to check it, but I'm really embarrassed that I didn't give them a mark or anything to line up to.
I have never had to before, and thought of it after it printed. :-[

Oh and another thing, the customer setup the position wrong
so my 1st proof did not work, I had to reposition the foil

I'm feeling the pressure of if anything goes wrong
you know who they're going to blame.

I'm going to take a sample of that foil in position with me.

I have given our foil guys PDF's with all the art for placement as well as the same file with just the foil element and they still manage to screw it up at times. I've sent imposed ones full sheet, I've taken the time to take the imposed file and make a half sheet one if they are doing it that way. They still screw it up.

Tracy, you could probably learn how to operate their machine, do the job yourself and they can still deliver screwed up pieces to you.

Well, at least the guys we use can.

We used to just give the foil stampers a 1 up file showing die line with foil in position. Now we actually have to give them a printed sheet with all art printed and the foil overprinted in opaque ink so they can check position.

Foiling went well, so far

I made a jig out of a flat proof, that he had to fit the foil in.
worked good.

I will work on it, It came out great!!

I only found 2 foils out of position, they did a great job
We used a different foiler, He just got a new (old) 40" foiler
It was the 1st job he did on it, I was impressed how calm he was under pressure
admire people like that cuz I'm not like that
