Macintosh / Re: 10.4 security update issue
June 05, 2008, 10:16:21 AM
Well the boss brought in his computer from home which is the same model. I swapped the hard drives and of course the bad machine didn't boot but the good one did. So at least we can do a new backup of his computer before we bring it into the shop. Definitely seeming to be a bad board.

Thanks again for all the responses. New things I tried and didn't work:

1) I tried resetting the mother board
2) Replaced the battery
3) Tried booting in safe mode

I'm starting to think it's a bad board.

Thanks for all the help.

I'll look into that Joe. Thanks. I don't suppose the battery is a AA is it?

I appreciate all the responses. As far as rebooting from the 10.4 DVD, I already stated that I tried that but it won't boot up from it.
I can't even get the DVD out of the drive now.
Basically the steps things happen:
1) Startup Gong
2) Black screen sits for 1 minute
3) Black screen stays but fans kick in overdrive.
4) Nothing else happens, fans go on forever.

I read Tracy's post and felt it was a bit different of an issue as I can't get anything more than just a black screen. No user shell or anything of the such. The big problem is the machine was backed up to an external drive every night but of course last week that drive went bad. Holding down the command + s doesn't do anything as it won't get past the fan initialization. Zapping PRam had the same issue. I got tired of holding the keys down for more than 5 minutes in hopes it would do something.

Macintosh / 10.4 security update issue
June 03, 2008, 11:07:31 AM
My boss has a G4 iMac with 10.4. He did the most recent security update and when it rebooted it made the gong sound and then sat for about a minute with a black screen. After that minute the fans kicked in on overdrive and nothing happens after that. I unplugged everything from the machine except for the power plug and rebooted. The results were the same. I also tried booting up using the 10.4 disk that came with the machine and held down the C key. Still nothing worked. Any ideas or suggestions?

Chris_r, I agree whole heartedly with you. Especially on the $79 part.

Thanks, I don't have access to google to search for such things so I appreciate the link. I will try it out shortly and let you know.

Macintosh / New account on 10.5 and InDesign
April 30, 2008, 03:04:49 PM
Hello all. I have an odd issue. I have setup a secondary account on my iMac Intel 10.5. After setting everything up the way I want it be like, the one program that won't launch is InDesign. Both CS2 and CS3 won't launch. They start to load and then freeze at the load up screen where it says "Initialising the SING gaiji system". Force quit then shows it's not responding. Any ideas of what might be causing this?

The Rest... / Re: Word art and Fonts
April 22, 2008, 11:15:04 AM
Well, I actually opened it up in NeoOffice finally and it actually told me what font it was supposed to be. I just wish Microsoft could find a way to make that easier to figure out. It's not really that hard to add.

The Rest... / Word art and Fonts
April 21, 2008, 10:04:55 AM
This is something that has really annoyed me over the past. We get a file that has WordArt in it and uses fonts. The fonts link up incorrectly of course when I don't have the proper font activated. When double clicking the WordArt on the PC, the font field is listed blank and when I do it on the Mac the font substitution font is listed, not what font is really needed.
Is there any way to find out what font it's really supposed to be outside of contacting a client?

Joe, the computer is a limited edition. Worth  a lot!

Well then I'd format your drive twice partition 1/2 windows 1/2 OS X install windows on the mac partition and then install OSX on the windows partition turn in a circle put your left foot out do the hokey pokey cause that's what it's all about.

Have you tried another keyboard?

I actually did all that! Every part! Even the crazy idea of another keyboard. :D
Not that it's that hard to reboot, probably a good idea every so often anyway. I was just curious if anybody else had such issues.
