My boss has a G4 iMac with 10.4. He did the most recent security update and when it rebooted it made the gong sound and then sat for about a minute with a black screen. After that minute the fans kicked in on overdrive and nothing happens after that. I unplugged everything from the machine except for the power plug and rebooted. The results were the same. I also tried booting up using the 10.4 disk that came with the machine and held down the C key. Still nothing worked. Any ideas or suggestions?

Hello all. I have an odd issue. I have setup a secondary account on my iMac Intel 10.5. After setting everything up the way I want it be like, the one program that won't launch is InDesign. Both CS2 and CS3 won't launch. They start to load and then freeze at the load up screen where it says "Initialising the SING gaiji system". Force quit then shows it's not responding. Any ideas of what might be causing this?

This is something that has really annoyed me over the past. We get a file that has WordArt in it and uses fonts. The fonts link up incorrectly of course when I don't have the proper font activated. When double clicking the WordArt on the PC, the font field is listed blank and when I do it on the Mac the font substitution font is listed, not what font is really needed.
Is there any way to find out what font it's really supposed to be outside of contacting a client?

10.5 Intel Mac

This is an odd thing that's happened to me several times. For some reason the finder doesn't recognize the keyboard. It does recognize the mouse however. I can also goto other programs and the programs recognize the keyboard key strokes. Like right now I can type this issue here in the forum but if I goto the finder, I can't get it work.
My current 2 solutions are to force quit the finder or restart the computer. Anybody else deal with such things?

Not totally sure of where this question should be posted but this seemed like the closest forum. Excuse me if I have posted incorrectly.
My office has about one dozen computers on our network. Most machines are OSX 10.3-10.5. Several are Windows XP based including our file server. The servers are hooked up through gigabit ethernet blades and the computers are equipped properly with gigabit network cards and CAT5 cabling.
I've been trying to transfer some larger files from my 10.5 Intel machine to the Windows File Server. The folders include numerous files and vary in size. The primary example I'm going to use here is a folder that contains approximately 750 files equalling 1.1 GB of data. It seems to me that the transfer rate should be relatively fast but to transfer this one folder it took 10 minutes. When trying to transfer the whole thing of 5.5 GB, it estimated 4 hours of transfer time.
Does this seem normal or should there be faster transfer rates? I checked my activity monitor and most of the things going on there aren't too intense on the processors or the memory. Although I don't understand each and everything on that list.
Might there be spyware or a trojan of some sort? This transfer rate seems to be consistent with other computers doing similar tasks.

Ok, I have an Illustrator CS2 file that has a large number of bitmap links. They are all different percentages and defined spot color. The customer asked if we could darken them all a certain amount. Is there a way to do that with a universal command or do I need to select each graphic individually and increase each a certain percentage?
