Yeah all i do now for a living is deal with workflows, troubleshooting for others, automating, and scripting. Not complaining because I'm a nerd, but it sure isn't the career I started in. Most of what I do here wouldn't really apply at a commercial print shop, so I have sort of worked myself out of prepress, well a different prepress I guess.

People at work give me hell because "I am automating them out of a job"... if it wasn't me it would be someone else. Survival of the fittest.

yeah lol... the only case it makes much sense is the jlt file for the indigo. I am slowly getting them to use automation, I think they are scared of it though. This will fix them touching every insite job for the sole purpose of setting it to complete. I think they are worried I am trying to slim down the "fat".

it depends on the job joe. Sometimes it would be the pdf from workshop, but a lot of times it is a jlt file for the indigo. I am making it a system rule so it has to be good for all the situations, even offset and SS jobs. This will work to solve my goal, keep people from having to open an insite job after approval and set the status.

this is why I am glad this forum is still here :)

I was using this as a manual trigger to clean up existing jobs still set as active because they are from before we started setting the status to complete after approval...

Pro Tip: Don't select 769 jobs at once

OH! Got it. Thanks guys. I had to put a branch in and when a page is approved, it checks if ALL pages hve been approved. If no it does nothing, if yes, job status change. I have to go back and add something upon refinement so it takes it out of completed state, but that's easy.

Thanks for helping me work it out, I really appreciate it.

I will look into using job is ready for production somehow, seems that would be the ticket. I will also dig into filters. The filters worry me because the event is page approved, so i think it will look at just that page and not all pages.

These jobs are using Insite to proof jobs that go to our small Indigo presses. Once they are approved the production files are copied to the HP RIP, so nothing happens in Prinergy after approval. If I could figure this out I could make it a system rule and not worry about any jobs, all pages approved = status complete. Kodak and I rarely see things the same way tho lol.

I will play with y'alls suggestions and if I figure something out report back.

That still involves an action to be performed by the csr. I am still looking but it looks like there isn't a way to just say "when all pages are approved do — " it would be like the event when "all surfaces are full do — " Thanks for poking around with it guys, just making sure I haven't missed something obvious. I could do it if the jobs were actually touched for some reason (like plates etc) but well we do some goofy stuff here, so these jobs never get touched in workshop after approval.

lol great minds and all, that was the other thing I tried. I am not sure what that is used for, there is not a "status" that is "job is ready for production." I assumed like you all pages being approved.

Not a bad idea on the timer but a lot of these jobs never have anything done to them in workshop after approval...don't ask.

The main purpose of them changing the status to completed is to take it off the active list in Insite. I'm working with one of the csr's to learn more about their workflow to try and find something atleast easier than opening each job in Insite.

Greetings!

I was made aware yesterday that people have to go into into each job and change the status to completed after all the pages are approved. Sounds like RBA time, but I can't get it to work. The only option I see is in the screenshot and that changes the status when ONE page is approved.

We are moving one of our customers to Insite and they do a shit ton of jobs, so this is going to be a pain if I can't find a way.

Anybody?

if you need to get rid of the tabs, do a find and replace. find ^t and replace with a blank field. Not sure that'll fix your problem though lol

what?!? preps 7 is awesome!!! you can do the same shit that you could in preps 5, but hey they made it dumber!

TLDR: fuck preps. If there is a plug in to do what it does instead, USE IT.

damnit Joe, that is complicated lol. I will have to play tomorrow but you should be able to detect what surface and to what press it was sent and get a corresponding proof as well. But there will be some filtering going on... serious filtering :)
