The substrate is actually the problem. We received a roll of foil (snack food bag material) from the printer, and as soon as it's  unrolled to be cut it curls insatiably , before it even enters the laminator. I would have guessed that lamination would have an effect on the curl, but it doesn't...material has a strong memory. Not sure if there's a solution or not, but I appreciate the replies. masking tape might help, but unfortunately its curling in such a way that the image side is what would need taped.  Just found out that we'll be making these into mock ups, rather than leaving flat, so filling the empty "bags" full of packing peanuts might help.

We are producing proofs on a Kodak approval laminating to metalized foils and polypropylene substrates for product mock ups. Wondering if anyone has any techniques you used to decrease curl in the substrate. As it is the proofs are very hard to utilize due to curl.

Quote from: G_Town on March 03, 2010, 11:26:34 AMAnyone know how to change the donor color rotation on a approval?

We want the Spot silver to go down last but it keeps coming out second to last.

If you run a Harlequin Rip in front of it, the ink order is controlled in the separations manager. Select the separation style you have in your page setup, then edit the ink order by dragging. Donors used in a particular spot color are defined in the Approval Config Utility.

Artwork Systems / Re: Nexus screening

Yep...thanks. Just had this confirmed from Mark Samworth that the Hybrid option is applied "on the fly" rather than limited to a particular screening set. Just have to determine if their systems is licensed for such.

thanks again.

Artwork Systems / Nexus screening
February 26, 2010, 10:29:48 AM
We are working with a company that runs a Nexus system with the following screening options listed below. I'm wondering if any of them are considered "hybrid" screening (am/FM). What we're looking for is the screening Flexo work with an FM highlight and wondering if its a possibility with the given screen sets. Can't find much info online.

Paragon
Paragon –7.5
Paragon +7.5
Paragon Organic

Concentric
CQSPlus 7.5
CQSBlack
CQSYellow
CQSNominal
CQSFlexo
CQSFlexoLowYellow
PCC Nominal
PCCFlexo
PCCFlexo1
PCCFlexo2
ABSNominal

Your tech is right. Dot gain is a natural occurrence when ink meets paper. In order to get a "linear" print, you'd have to cut back the plate curves...as well as compensate all CMYK separations or they would look weak.

Quote from: edzio on January 19, 2009, 03:46:35 PMThanks for the reply Mike. I did not generate two profiles. I only generated one from the measurements in the screen shot. I'll try making two but just to be clear on the procedure, I would use the reference file for the ECI2002r to make both the XL105 profile and the 9800 profile?
Yep. The reference file is just utilizing the CMYK values within the data, so using a measurement file as you did probably isn't a bad thing, just a little confusing to look at...though It did clue me in to the fact that you only generated one profile.

Quotewe use Profile Editor to make any adjustments but I'm not sure of the workflow we should be using
.
By all means verify your workflow is ideal prior to editing profiles. After you go back and generate two profiles (one for the 9800, one for the XL105), from the screenshot you gave, I would guess that you simply need to assign the XL105 as your source profile and he 9800 as the destination. Maybe someone more familiar with prinergy can chime in, but give it a try.

Thanks David. I've been an occasional lurker here since the prepressforums.com days, but guess I never got around to posting here until now.better late than never I guess.
Cheers

Did you actually generate two profiles...one for your press, one for your 9800? In the ProfileMaker Screen shot, your reference data is from the 9800 and your measurement data is the XL105. If this is the only profile you generated, it is representing the XL105 only. you would need to also generate one for your 9800 (as the measurement data).
If you did make two profiles, it might not make a difference, but you might want to use the ECI2002r reference file rather than the measurement data for your 9800 when generating the xl105 profile. The CMYK values in the text files should be the same, so it probably does no harm, but its not nice to look at from here. ;)
I would also recommend changing the gamut mapping to Logo Colorful.
i'm not familiar with prinergy in the slightest, but those settings look strange to me. For proof matching, the source is usually the color space that the CMYK files are prepped toward (press) and the destination is the custom profile of the proofer (9800).
