So I've been using the Create Imposition process templates in Preps 5.3.  Or at least trying to.  For some files it works and some it doesn't.  And I can't figure out what the variable is to make it work consistently.  I've even made unique preps templates that only house one template in them, so Preps doesn't get confused on which one to pick.  Even then, some files will work and some won't.  Is there something I'm missing?

Another follow up question:  In the workflow templates, where I have it creating impos, creating vps and sending to the proofers.  The plates/proofs come out with "Evo.job" instead of the actual file name.  However when I use those process templates singularly it uses the defined name.

Let me know if you need any more info!

I've tried to get prinergy to do the create impo thing and it's never worked properly for me. We do so much custom work and even if I spent the time working through it I don't think it would be worth it.

I will keep an eye on this thread just to see how it goes.

So you are using Prinery Create Imposition? I use it daily with no issues. What kind of problem are you having exactly? I mean what is not doing that you want it to.

Naming is done within the process template. I assume you use a different PT for proofs and plates.

I'm glad you were able to word that with some tact. I am still confused on exactly what he is asking. I mean, they all sound like really simple requests, which I know can't be what he is really wanting to do. That would be too easy. I mean, it's all basic stuff a Prinergy user should know before using it.

Am I wrong here?

It will error out, and no imposition is made.  "Suffered Fatal Error". I've attached a screen shot.

As for the naming convention.. When I use the process templates it works fine.  Only when they are bundled together in a workflow template does it come out with the "Evo.job" name.

Lets start with the basics...what version of Prinergy/Evo are you running?

And by "Create Imposition" are you doing that from the Workshop file menu and Prinergy opens Preps and you impose from there?

And have you tried force quitting that JTP and restarting it. Or shutting down Prinergy and restarting it? Or shutting down the Prinergy PC and then restarting it? Did this just start recently or have you been having the issue for some time?

Yeah, an error screen shot really isn't going to cut it... too broad. Why don't you list out EXACTLY the process you are using in detail on the failing job. I mean, start from the beginning and go all the way till the error pops up. Remember, we are trying to envision this in our heads; paint a picture for us.

Prinergy 5.1 - So I'm using a Template Palette - The Process Template spits out a .JDF

These "create imposition" templates have never been used.  And it continues to fail after restarting.  Even tried on multiple computers.  The issue is that it works with some PDFs and not with others.  Same dimensions, same page count.

I'm even more confused.

Picture a guy in a room doing a lot of the same thing you're doing. Now, picture that guy getting handed a job ticket with nothing filled out, but the name of the company and what colors print on it, but nothing else. No press info, no contact info, hell, not even an indication where the file is this guy is supposed to work on...

Are you seeing my example here? BE MORE DETAILED. Caution: you may have to type a little.

Here is my process....

- Download PDF from Hightal, make edits in pitstop
- Send through prinergy refine
- Then it goes through the Alwan software, spits out an ink-optimized PDF
- Drag and drop that optimized PDF onto the "Create Imposition" process template
- Sometimes a JDF file is created, using the correct imposition.  Sometimes it will not create a JDF file

Specifically it is a 16 page 8.375x10.625 PDF

I attached a screen shot of the Process template that I'm using.

Have you tried running the PDF through WITHOUT the ink optimizer software?

BTW, thank you for being specific. It helps a lot.

Looking at your process, I just don't see anything wrong with Preps and EVO. There has to be something beforehand that is causing intermitted PDFs to fail. I'm guessing the Ink Optimizer software. Try it.

I just tried to run it when it was just Refined and not optimized, and still no dice.  I was thinking it could have something to do with the original PDF creation.  Possibly the Create Imposition template is not compatible with PDF X1 or X4.  I just saved the PDF as a PS and tried to distill to PDFX1a but it errored out and no PDF was created. Could that mean that it only work with files that are PDFX1 compatible?

I just tried the original, non-edited, non-Refined PDF and the "Create Impo" template worked...So its somethin in the refine process making it incompatible with the Creat Impo template....?  That doesnt make sense.

Ahhh, but it does. At least we are getting somewhere. We now know it is NOT preps, it's something EVO is doing during the refine process, or it is still a PDF problem. Take a screenshot of your refine settings.

Also, try refrying the PDF in InDesign using these attached settings. I'm not ruling out a bad PDF just yet.
