Title: Rich black without cyan
Post by: pspdfppdfxhd on February 11, 2015, 07:27:50 AM
I was wondering if anyone had ever added magenta and yellow to make a rich black?

We have a 3 color process job (M, Y, K only) and if it made sense, could add some M and Y to the solid black to make it darker.

I apologize if this sounds ridiculous.

yes, you can. It will make it a warm black instead of a cool shade, but it does work well.

Just maintain an equal portion of magenta and yellow. The old 5,2,2 (or 5,3,3) rule for gray balance.

Fun fact: It's also a rule I've used for caucasian skin tone. Magenta and yellow values should always be close to each other in midtones. Works every time.

Fun Fact: we are running the black as dense black, no need to worry. We can all sleep tonight.

Sorry to waste time on this. We can all get back to work now.

Hello guys.

Sorry for stop your beer party. Gig0 is right, you can put a skintone in your rich black and take the black density to 1.8-2 (Status T). Maybe you can use a blueish black ink to compensate.

...and yes, I'm still alive and powered by the one that create all the things you see and take care of you and your family.
